Don't choose
Not worth the $ 199.00 rate. Stayed there as last hotel option in the area.

PSU Mom
Not the best customer service
I had traveled to State College to see my son who is a student at PSU and to attend the football game. When I checked in after the game the gentleman at the desk was not very helpful. They gave me a room that I had to use the staircase to get to because the hotel does not have any elevators. Since I have a disability I said that I was not able to carry my bags down stairs, he laughed and said "oh well". The staff member never offered to help with my bags. I have utilized other hotels in the State College area and was never treated this badly. So I will not recommend this hotel.

My review of Toftrees Resort and Four Star Golf Club
The golf course and pool looked very inviting (we did not have time to use), but the hotel itself was worn.

Not A Resort
Hotel desperately needs to be updated. Lacks pizazz. Has great amenities and lovely grounds. The mattress was hard and the bath towels old and scratchy. The breakfast buffet was great.Has a lot to offer, but won't stay there again until it's renovated. Great value if you are athletic.

Toftree Resort - location true value!
We were visiting PENN STATE and found the location of this resort to be perfect.....very close proximity to PSU. But the room had an awful, mildewy smell. The bathroom appeared designed for little people. The sink was practically at my knees and the ceiling was barely above my head (I'm 5'6"). The shower head was at my neck.

I know Jack
Not a hole-in-one
This place over promises: from the outside you feel like you are pulling into a luxury spa, but the closer you get to the hotel entrance, the more you feel like it's a motel 6 surrounded by a golf course. The exterior needs paint; the interior lobby is not bad. The rooms feel old; no central air but instead those noisy wall mounted units; limited TV selection; old furniture in the rooms. On the upside, the grounds are very nice and there is an interesting running/mountain biking trail adjacent to the hotel property. There were exercise stations at one point, but they are all overgrown now - but you can still see some of the signs. This, unfortunately, only reinforces the out-of-date association with this hotel.

Nice atmosphere but could use an update
I stayed at this hotel for a wedding, and unfortunately did not have an opportunity to play golf. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and would do anything to make sure that we were happy. The only issue was the front desk staff, who was not very knowledgeable. The rest of the staff is what made the stay enjoyable. The hotel has a relaxing feel and the rooms were nice, but a little outdated.

Good value
Quiet and secluded setting, yet right next to Penn State. We got a super promotional price which is why we came. Penn State football weekends are 5x the price.

Nice Accommodations, Resturant So/So
I've been a regular hotel resident of State College for over 8 years now. Decided to give here a try, even if it's a little farther out from downtown then I'm accustomed to. The Premium room was nice, quaint, and while not ultra modern, clean and tastefully accented. The Front desk staff was nice, just their book keeping needed some to be desired. First, they mistakenly thought we were checking out a day ahead of schedule, which they did remedy when they found out. Then, they were confused as to how we were going to pay. However, when we called the front desk to help us get a taxi home, they went the distance and got us the help we needed. The worst was the attached bar's kitchen staff. It was clear that they didn't want to stay open when we appeared (6 of us) at 9:30pm on a friday, and did a horrible job with the food. late, wrong, and clearly no attempt to satisfy (one sandwich was supposed to have no sause, and it was clear that they just wiped it off and slapped it back together, as it was all over the bun). The bar tender did her best to appologize and accommodate, by the glares from the remaining staff made it apparent we were keeping them there. All in all, a nice relaxing place to enjoy your time to State College, just pack your own food or order takeout!
