Stay next door!

My daughter lives in nearby Taylor, PA so when I need a hotel, I usually stay at the Hampton which is right next door to this hotel. I decided to try Comfort Suites as they are cheaper. Never again..... The walls are paper thin. I just really don't need to hear every word spoken in the room next door, every bodily function, every sound from the hallway and above me. People knocking on our door in the middle of the night. There was a game room down at the end of the hallway and it sounded like they were playing pool in our bathroom! On a positive note, the hotel was spotless and the room was very nice. The bed was comfortable, but it really doesn't matter when you can't sleep because of the noise anyway. If you need a hotel in this area, the Hampton is right next door and although it's slighly more expensive, you do get what you pay for!

ok fire alarm went off at 7am woke me up out of a dead sleep. got up anyway to go skiing. hotel is right off 81s and close to sno mountain. that is about it. food sucked. they had bacon mixed in with the eggs. nice for vegetarians. to many bad experiences at this hotel, can't say we didn't try. not a bad place to flop for the night.

We were pleased

We had read a couple of mixed reviews and were a little concerned, but the room was perfectly clean, and the pool area seemed clean also. We had a king-size bed and a pull-out couch, which our son thought was cool. There was a refrigerator in the room; some other hotels we looked at charged extra for a fridge, so it was an amenity we appreciated. I was pleasantly surprised by the large, fluffy bath towels. The complimentary breakfast was "serve yourself," with an employee assigned to refill stations as needed. I'd say it was a step or so above continental, and satisfied us. It included cereals, baked goods, a couple of hot items and - the fun part - a DIY waffle-baking machine. The only problem was the line for the waffle machine when the breakfast crowd grew a little large. (Each waffle took precisely 2.5 minutes to bake.) Everyone was pretty polite about it, fortunately. We stayed there two nights and enjoyed it. I was just a little annoyed to come back to the room after our first day's outing and find an envelope on the table that, basically, reminded us to leave a tip for the maid. I don't need that reminder. But, if that's my biggest complaint, that's pretty good, I guess!

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Our main reason for visiting Scranton was Steamtown, a National Historic Site dedicated to the history of the region's railroading & mining industries. It was inexpensive and quite well done. Even apart from the rides on the trains, the exhibits were informative and lively! I'm not quite the railroad buff that my husband and son are, but if history and/or technology interest you at all, this place is worth a visit. It's run by the National Park Service. And we took two train rides that both happened to be using steam locomotives, so of course, that was the best! Don't wear delicate clothes, though - steam engines create soot, which definitely gets onto the passengers.

Smells like smoke

Apparently this hotel just converted to being smoke-free, which means the place still stinks. It's really bad. I felt sick after staying there.
