Go Somewhere Else

We stayed at this hotel because we received a discounted rate because my husband had eye surgery down the street. The staff is very courteous and helpful but the room left a lot to be desired. There are no phone books or local attraction guides in the room to point us toward any kind of restaurants or local points of interest. There is not even a menu for the hotel restaurant. When I called the front desk (on a phone that barely worked), I was told that if I wanted a menu, I would have to come down and they would photo copy one for me. Why not do this in the first place so guests are not inconvenienced, especially if they are recovering from eye surgery?? Plus, I had to reset the TV myself when we arrived and we only received a few channels (no biggie) and there is something that resembled dried blood on the wall near the trash can in the bathroom. Not the greatest place but I guess it's what we get for the price. One plus is that they have a hotel bar to drink away the memories of this stay.

depressing

for a hotel with a 3-star rating it was depressing to walk in to find a drab, dingy, outdated and vaguely unclean facility....i paid $89/night for a king room, the size of which was good, but everything else was a disappointment....if i had paid $45 for this stay i would have expected about what i got...this hotel is not comparable in any regard with the other 3-star rated hotel in the area in which i have also stayed...

Dining tip: In Hotel

what passes for "hot breakfast" was not very interesting or very good...the best thing is that there were fresh oranges and apples available (but not bananas or other fruit)..the bread was of the "wonder" variety and the rest of the food was unappetizing and unappealingly laid out...the staff was not up to 3-star service....if the b/fast buffet were not included, i would have skipped it....

Find a different place! Soo many choices

We were traveling from a family reunion in western PA back home to NH so Scranton was the 1/2 way to stop and get a few hours rest. We checked in around 8pm and went right up to room to get some sleep. It was BAD. The bed was so hard it felt like sleeping on the floor. The bathroom was GROSS. There were cigarette burns ON the toilet seat and the walls of the tub had mildew that they tried to paint over and was coming back through. We were so done with being in the car we stayed and slept and got out of there first thing in the morning.Breakfast was included but we figured if the rooms were bad there was no way I was eating the food. There are so many other hotels in the area. We will never stay in Scranton again. Wilkes-Barre is the next town over and has a lot more newer hotels with more places to eat around them.

Seedy,, dark and cold

The place is in disrepair, they were shampooing the carpet in the room next to mine at about 8:00 PM. The TV screen flipped and the color was off. A street bum sat by me a breakfast. I applaud them for feeding him but the guy was off the hook. He was really inappropriate but not dangerous. The elevators made a grinding noise and they were all dented etc. and the hotel is in a pretty bad neighborhood. Other than that it was great! just joking it should have been about 45 dollars/night instead of 89+tax.

Clarion otel Scranton

Only once prior did I ever need to request a room change at a hotel. When we checked into our room here the room reeked of smoke. The desk clerk apologized and changed our room.(we had bkd a non-smoking room and the outside of the door listed it as a NS room) We then left to go out and when we returned, we had no sooner closed our room door and the dog in the room across the hall started barking. No one had informed us that we were on a pets allowed floor. When we went down stairs again to request a room change we were then informed that pets were allowed on the 5th floor. Since we had booked online the clerk stated that there was nothing she(or the hotel) could do for us until the next day when she could change our room. We were very dis-satisfied with the response!
