Rooms with a Pittsburgh view and private balconies, too
The Quality Inn University Center is in an ideal location for visitors looking to stay near Pittsburgh's major medical centers and universities. Many are walkable from the hotel's front door, if not in plain sight from one of the hotel's private balconies. Guests not interested in walking can catch a ride on the hotel's complimentary shuttle. Hotel employees were friendly and they had everything in order. The state of the hotel was not good. It was old and in need of a major renovation.

Nice basic hotel for local universities.
This is a nice basic hotel - rooms are a little small and dated but it is clean. It is a little noisy because it is right there in the city but it isn't terrible. The location cannot be beat, it is 5 minutes from CMU, Pitt, Carlton, Duquesne, and that is why I have stayed there before, and will stay again.

Pittsburgh
The hotel was in a good location though there was a lot of street noise. The hotel is old and needs some major remodeling and sprucing up. Love the Panera right downstairs. A/C was Very noisy.

Weary Train Traveler
Decent hotel near major universities
Visited local universities, downtown Pittsburgh, and surrounding area over a few days. The hotel has a Panera bread in its lower level, which was very convenient for one lazy morning, and very close to Forbes avenue and fifth avenue. The fitness area had some flooding so was out of commission. The staff was friendly; they called a cab for me when I needed to go to the train station. Given that this was on the first leg of my train travel vacation, I was happy to have a quiet and clean place to rest after walking around the city for a few hours.

Not Applicable
Get a copy of the Port authority buses to and from downtown; there's a series of routes that run nearby and are much cheaper and quite convenient from the hotel to downtown.

Great Location for price
The rooms are average and decor is not modern but it does have a flat TV and the rooms are very clean. Also the location is great for the price. Staff was friendly and efficient. The hotel is on top of a Panera francise which is also great for breakfast. Not to mention one of the very few hotels that offer free parking. Bottom line, if your intent is to go out and only return to the hotel to sleep (basics) then this is the perfect place form the money.

Disappointing
I got the hotel room because it was close to downtown Pittsburgh and the least expensive. The room seemed small and unclean. The bathroom was even smaller and the shower head and dial were not attached to the wall. The light switches and outlets were setup wrong. The only nice thing was the view of downtown.
