This place continues to go down-hill!

After a less than enjoyable stay the week before due to a noisy bed, broken shower rod, and the hotel bar being filled with loud/foul-mouthed hotel employees who recently finished their shift, we decided to give this hotel a second chance. That was a mistake. There was a landscaping crew running a leaf blower outside our window at 8:30am. Then we waited several minutes for someone at he front desk for our check out, but no one was around. We dropped the keys in the drop box and left. Unfortunately they ended up double charging our room (one to the card used to reserve the room online, and then to the credit card we used to cover incidentals at check-in). The front-desk staff were rude when we called to help us resolve the issue with our banks/credit card companies. We ended up having to wait 3 days for one of the cards to be cleared of the charges due to their screw-up. We won't be back. This hotel was much better when it was a Holiday Inn.

Great Location

Hotel worked great for us, as we were going to a Pirates game. Pool was being repaired, but everything else was great. The kids loved the breakfast and the staff were all kind.

La Quinta McKnight Road, Pittsburgh

Would not recommend Mon, Mar 9, 2015
I spent one night at the La Quinta on McKnight Road and was somewhat disappointed. In 2013, I did a road trip from California to Texas and mainly stayed at La Quintas because I've always had good experiences. In general, I looked forward to staying at this hotel because it was supposed to be consistent in amenities and cleanliness. This stay proved to be slightly different, and I was really surprised. I will start off with the positive, in that the front desk staff was extremely kind and efficient getting me checked in. As I went to my room, I began to notice there was a lot of wear and tear throughout from the elevator to the carpet as if nothing had been updated in a very long time. My room was very clean, but very well worn in - stains on the furniture and oddly, the hair dryer was stained purple from (what I'm guessing) a spilled glass of red wine. The shower curtain had that mildew/urine smell to it, which was slightly unpleasant and kind of negated taking a shower. The outside parking lot and smoking area were abysmal. Pittsburgh has had a ton of snow, and its a challenge to keep up with it, so I totally get it. But the parking lot was full of ruts and ice clumps that were turning to ice. This makes it a challenge and a safety hazard to walk to your car. As far as the smoking area goes, there were cigarette butts all over the ground and was just really sloppy. In general, I really like the La Quinta brand and this particular location may be an anomaly. I hope that someone from headquarters can go in, assess the situation and bring the hotel up to par.

Business trip

Would not recommend Thu, Feb 19, 2015
This was one of the worst experiences I have had staying at a hotel on my business trips. The hotel is on a hill and the driveway is steep. The night of my arrival it had snowed during the day and the entire driveway was not plowed or salted making it very hard on my vehicle to get to the parking lot. The room itself was OK but I was given a handicapped room when I did not request it. There was no curtain on the window allowing bright lights from the parking lot to light up my room making it hard to sleep. It was too late and I was too tired to go down and argue it. The next day upon return to my room, housekeeping had not cleaned my room! I complained to the front desk and they apologized and gave me a new room. This room was better until I tried to make coffee the next morning. The coffee maker still had an old filter in it from whoever made coffee last!! Real poor housekeeping. I hope management takes note of this.

modest accommodation

Would not recommend Thu, Sep 4, 2014
This was an ok place to stay but the staff and management was certainly not in a respectable form, sometimes even doing things that don't make sense financially, such as having an empty room chilled to 60 degrees, not properly managing a slippery spot on floor right outside elevator in lobby, ignoring requests for more front desk staff when one person was struggling to handle a dozen people in line AND the phones, and other staff, aware of this, were not coming out to help. This was also the place to be for travelers with dogs, for some reason.

Three negatives

Would recommend Mon, Jun 2, 2014
Three negatives. There is no road sign that I saw. When looking for the place, I drove up and back 4 times before spotting the hotel way up on a tall hill . Not a big problem being on a hill, but there was no road sign letting me know where to turn in. I later found out there is three ways to get to it, two of them being through a mall and store parking lot, but again, NO SIGN showing me where an entrance is. I had to drive around through parking lots to find it. Second problem was one of the drives up to the hotel. The drive had a massive pothole that I ran into because I was looking ahead trying to see where the entrance to the hotel was. Third problem was I needed a wake up call at 6AM, and let the desk know and they never called. I had my phone that I used just in case so I managed to get up within 20 minutes of when I needed but then I had to hustle because I needed to get to the airport. I mentioned to the desk when I checked out, and a lady looked and sure enough it was marked down but no one ever called. I would have given the staff a perfect score because they were always very friendly and smiling, but when I cant even get a simple wake up call, that kind of ruined their score.

Dirty

Would not recommend Mon, May 26, 2014
I would recommend this hotel based on it's location only, however the bathroom was dirty and there was hair on the pillow cases (looked liked they needed to be changed.). The room could have been a lot cleaner and the hotel looks like it needs some updates.
