Chocolate chip cookies to die for!
Just Ducky Oct 12, 2009
From check-in to check-out, everything was fantastic about Pittsburgh City Center Doubletree. The view from my room was ... incredible, esp. at night seeing the lights of the city. The staff was friendly and courteous (like most citizens of Pittsburgh!) and the rooms impeccable. My floor was quiet and smoke-free (no traceable odors of smoke either), although I was awoken by some late night party-goers who were probably too schnockered to talk softly in the hallways at 2:30 AM. The bed was very comfortable and made me feel right at home. The temperature of the room was perfect and easily adujstable--whether you like it cooler or warmer. Pittsburgh's mass transit is a work in progress, and it is difficult to figure out the roads. The hotel offered a "city shuttle" to attractions within 3 miles of the hotel. I didn't use a taxi since I was visiting family, but if you rent a car, get a GPS! The roads in P'burgh are a confusing maze of one way streets and 5-street intersections. In some cases, a road name changes to a different name, and then changes back to the original. ??????? The in-hotel restaurant offered a standard-fare breakfast buffet, yet tastefully presented. But those warm cookies....they are available day and night. I must have gained 5 lbs. from that alone! There was a problem with the toilet, and the "care line" sent a maintenance person up within 5 minutes of my call, even late at night. The "care line" is a push button on the phone, which is answered within one ring. The staff at the other end of the line was very helpful and efficient. The pool was not available, but Doubletree did offer a shuttle over the local YMCA should you be in need of some water therapy. That was my only disappointment. I would definitely stay at the Doubletree again, because I plan on becoming a regular visitor of Pittsburgh--there was so much I didn't have time to explore. And of course, for those heavenly cookies!

If the weather had been warmer, I would have walked or biked around the city more so than I did. I didn't take a taxi, so I don't know how much they cost, and I couldn't figure out the bus routes. Best to have a good map and a guide book. Many attractions of great architecture that you would miss if driving. The citizens are so friendly and helpful if you do get lost.

The Red Beard Saloon at the top of the Mt. Washington incline was EXCELLENT! Great food, great prices, great service. As we as Nadine's on S. 27th Street, well worth the drive over. What an awesome little place with great food and personalized service. Nadine's was featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive ins and Dives.

We went to visit friends and take in a ballgame. The staff at the Double Tree were very professional and helpful. We took ... advantage of the shuttle service the hotel offers and explored some of the city. There was a lot to see, so did as much as time allowed! Pittsburg still has a "town feel" to it, even though it is a large city.

Nice room, nice staff, the location was ok, but I found it hard to navigate around the city, which was not the hotels fault, ... just poor planning on my part. I liked the fact that they had a shuttle, that was a great way for us to get around.

We were traveling to Pittsburgh from Kentucky for a Priates game/Weekend. The shuttle took us to the game. The beds were ... nice and comfortable. The staff were very welcoming. The trademark at DoubleTree is that you get fresh baked cookies when you arrive. There weren't any fresh cookies when we arrived but we were given extra's at our check out and they were absolutely delicious, perfect for the car ride home.

It is a short drive to Station Square, great for dining, shopping, and nightlife. The shuttle will drop you off and pick you up, but if you return after 10:30 PM, the cab is only about $5 back to the hotel.

RDA Aug 9, 2009
Good location near a landmark building...easy to find and convenient to all downtown and sports. That said, the hotel is not ... staffed with "can do" people. The advertised shuttle was never available in 3 days...most people gave up. The business center looks good and has 3 current computers...but they all crash, are slow, and there is not support promptly available. Also, I think someone in the hotel garage took my rental car for a joyride.

Katie Aug 9, 2009
This hotel was very pretty and well decorated. They were sold out the night of my stay, and my room was upgraded to a 2 ... bedroom suite with a dining room and kitchen. It was great. My keys to my room didn't work at first, and after going back down to the front desk, the new keys didn't work either. We had to have a security guard come let us in. That would be my only complaint. I would stay here again.

Great Hotel
Weekend Traveller Jun 14, 2009
The hotel was in a great part of the city, very accessible to everything. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The ... shuttle service was great! We didn't drive anywhere all weekend. The only problem we had was with the valet. The only time we did get our car out of the garage it took over 45 minutes to get our car, and we eventually went to retrieve it ourselves at the garage. The manager of the garage was very rude and began yelling at us that it wasn't his fault the service was so slow, there were just too many cars. When the issue was brought to the attention of the hotel staff, they apologized and explained that the valet employees were not hotel employees, the garage is leased and run by another company. The hotel manager did compensate our valet expense due to the lack of service.

hotel was nice. I thought pricey for what you get; but, charging for parking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 38 dollars for 2 days! they ... claimed the parking garage was separate entity. must say dumb on my forehead. they had a passageway and the hotel elevator from the garage as well as being able to pay at the registration desk for garage charges. restaurant experience was awful. food sucked and very pricey. if going, eat somewhere else. they have a CREATIVE CHEF who over cooks the pasta and the fish made my daughter sick. she threw up all night long. for this lovely meal we paid 66 bucks plus.

the courthouse is right across from the hotel. DON'T EAT at the small vendors. walk 2 blocks and eat at a decent normal restaurant. also we saw Macy's there. didn't shop but saw it. EVERYTHING CLOSES UP AT 6:00 p.m. so get food or coffee or whatever ahead of time. they do give you decent coffee in the room.

Very hard to find this hotel. If you miss a turn, you will end up 15 miles away in just minutes. Unless you are familiar ... with the streets and traffic patterns in downtown Pittsburgh, you'll waste a great deal of time trying to figure out how to get there. Garmin doesn't recognize the location so GPS won't help. The hotel itself was very nice and clean, and the beds were super comfortable. The staff was courteous and helpful. The shuttle bus service was great, but I felt that the on-demand feature for this service, as opposed to a set schedule for pickups and dropoffs, made it less efficient. The parking attendants were great, as was [...], the nice young lady who brought our breakfast in the morning.I would stay at this hotel in the future, now that I have an idea how to get there. The hotel itself is excellent, but getting there was a nightmare.
Traveler type: Family
If you can do it, the first time you will be staying at this hotel, find someone who lives in Pittsburgh and knows where it is to meet you somewhere and follow them there. Try to schedule your arrival time for mid-morning or early afternoon - no sooner than an hour before rush hour. Otherwise you'll end up headed out to Homestead or someplace in bumper to bumper traffic.
