European charm in historic downtown Pittsburgh hotel
Courtyard by Marriott Pittsburgh Downtown brings much to a stay in Pittsburgh, from its convenient location among the city's cultural hot spots to the unique nature of the building itself. Four historical buildings combine to create a single facility, featuring vaulted ceilings and European details. Business travelers with meetings at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center or with companies headquartered in the steel city enjoy the hotel's great location, as well as Courtyard Café and Sonoma Grill.
Highlights
- Free high-speed Internet access in guest rooms
- Guest rooms with 12- to 17-foot ceilings and European decor
- Convenient location for business and leisure travelers
Rooms
All 182 guest rooms, thanks to the historical nature of the hotel's buildings, feature 12- to 17-foot vaulted ceilings common in older, industrial structures. Rooms include upgraded linens, European decor, free high-speed Internet access, and a large, well-lit work area. This is a non-smoking facility.
Features
Courtyard by Marriott Pittsburgh Downtown brings a unique perspective to a chain hotel. The hotel, housed in four renovated and interconnected historical buildings, offers architectural details guests might expect to find in a European hotel, not in one of America's industrial cities. Guests find modern technology in all rooms, with free high-speed wired Internet access. Wireless access is available in public spaces for a fee.
The hotel, which sits in the middle of Pittsburgh's cultural district and around the corner from the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, offers three meeting rooms with 1,130 square feet of meeting space. A coin-operated laundry service is available on site. The small on-site fitness center offers a handful of cardio machines and free weights.
Guests enjoy Courtyard Café, open daily for breakfast, and the Sonoma Grill, offering California-style cuisine for lunch and dinner, plus an extensive wine list.

Great place to stay for the ballgame
We went to Pittsburgh to see some ballgames at PNC park. The hotel is within walking distance. The hotel appears to have been recently updated. The rooms were great and all of the people were extremely courteous and helpful. It is also within walking distance of the "strip" where my wife found several things that she just had to have.

Everything was great, but...
Everything was perfect minus a complimentary continental breakfast. They were about to charge me an arm and a leg for a panini, but I wasnt going to do that. It was one of the best trips I have ever taken.

excellent treatment
I went to Pittsburgh to watch baseball. The weather was awful, but the staff at the Courtyard couldn't have been more helpful. Anything that was asked for was provided with a smile. The desk staff was amazing (and I'm sorry I don't remember the names since they deserve commendation). Shuttle drivers were pleasant and totally helpful. The only complaint is that we left the room late Saturday and it was not cleaned when we returned. I'll still return since it's in a great location and the overall experience was way above average.

Short walk from hotel
You can walk to the strip district, theater district, PNC ballpark, and market square. The shuttle takes you to Station Square and the casino. The location is perfect for me.

Decent hotel
I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott for two nights. I was seeing a concert at Consol Energy Center both evenings and figured it was a close enough place to stay since the hotel offered shuttle service every half hour. I had contacted the hotel prior to booking and was told that they offer a shuttle service to and from Consol Energy Center, so I booked my rooms. What I was not told previously was that the shuttle service only ran until 10:30 and if I was going to be out longer than that - I had to find my own form of transportation back to the hotel. I did not appreciate that very much, but other than that - the hotel staff was friendly. The room was clean and had very high ceilings, which I thought made the room seem more luxurious. I would skip eating the hotel breakfast, it isn't complimentary or warm. The waffles were good, as they are made to order, but the sausage, bacon and potatoes could not even be considered lukewarm. There isn't much to eat nearby for breakfast - so I would suggest taking a shuttle or some other form of transportation to get breakfast elsewhere. The good thing is IF they make a mistake, like charging you for parking when you didn't even have a car... their staff was prompt to fix their mistake.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
If you are looking for a good spot for lunch, I would recommend stopping at August Henry's. It was right across the street from the hotel, and is also open for dinner as well. It is a casual bar type restaurant and they are open until 1:00 PM on weekends so if you are out late - they are still open for somewhere to eat. Their food is decent and their portions are good. The price ranges (for lunch) between around $8 and $15 or so. We got the zucchini strips which were very crispy and HOT.

Courtyard Pittsburgh Downtown
We were in town for our son's wedding on Oct. 23rd and wanted to be close to Monterey Bay Fish Grotto where we gave the pre-wedding dinner on Oct. 22nd. The location worked out well. I was surprised the pillowcases were not pressed. It would have been nice to have a small refrigerator and microwave. We do a fair bit of foreign travel and it's hard to make a comparison.

Good value for the money
Purpose was business meeting with client. Would be nice if there was at least a modest bar. Although there are some in the immediate area, they're too noisy for much serious discussion. Rooms are quite generous in size which is pleasant.

Expected more...
Came there to preview Pittsburgh for a job opportunity. Needless to say, I did not know that there was a "Furries" convention the same weekend. Well, the convention center is right next to the hotel....so I would recommend seeing what conventions are going on during the same time of your stay.
