Business-friendly hotel just outside city center
Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, located just outside Pittsburgh's city center, is currently in the midst of a transformation from a Ramada property. Guests enjoy several free amenities, including Wi-Fi Internet access in all rooms, fitness center, and continental breakfast. For now, however, guests may have to deal with sporadic construction in the hotel's public spaces.
Highlights
- Rooms with balconies
- Free Wi-Fi Internet access
- Free continental breakfast
Rooms
Each of the hotel's 201 rooms on the second, third, and fourth floors has a balcony. All rooms also have free Wi-Fi Internet access, free local calls and free coffee.
Features
Clarion Hotel and Conference Center was, up until September 2010, a Ramada property. With the transfer of ownership now complete, the new management is on track to make the hotel similar to others in the Clarion chain. This name change has resulted in construction to the main lobby and the hotel's restaurant, Longnecker's. Construction will continue for the near future, though hotel management says it occurs in the overnight hours, or when the hotel is not busy, and never on weekends. The restaurant's hours are sporadic due to the construction schedule.
What has not changed, though, is the hotel's free continental breakfast. Guests can also take advantage free locals. While on leisure, visitors can take a dip in the small outdoor pool at the hotel's courtyard,

Great value for the money
The Clarion hotel was perfect for what I needed; a place to enjoy a night very close to Pittsburgh without costing a ton of money and being in a busy area. The hotel is however close enough to any of the popular attractions that may be of interest. The room was clean and I was even able to check in an hour early. The breakfast is no worse than any other comparatively priced hotel and overall it was a pleasant stay.

Work in progress
I was aware that renovation was going on. My room was comfortable. The wi-fi service was inconsistent. The breakfast buffet was ok. The location off I-376 to get to downtown Pittsburgh was excellent. When the renovation is completed, it will be a fine facility.

Economical Business Trip
This hotel was fairly easy to find. Remodeling was going on, but for the price it was an economical stay and quite satisfactory.

Still under construction and showing
For a hotel that has had reviews for the past three years saying it is under construction I really expected to see more progress then I did. It appears that the hotel suffered from some type of water/fire damage before Clarion purchased it. There was still water damage on the carpets in the hallways and our room. We saw water damage at the top of the window curtain and under the glass of the desk as well. We also had a slow leak around our tub and toilet. The staff was not very helpful. We patiently waited for close to 10 minute while the desk clerk was assisting a customer on the phone and progressed to help someone else who walked in five minute after we did. Our room was not very clean. The toilet paper roll was towards the end before we even used it, there was some type of brown residue on the cord of the hair dryer and we found garbage stuck under the heater. The only reason why I gave my review a three for room comfort is because the bed was clean and comfortable. There is not much around the hotel and you have to drive a few miles for any amenities you may need. They provided a good breakfast but there is no restaurant or convenience store on the property. For a hotel I find this to be very disappointing, I have stayed at cleaner and friendlier "motels" for cheaper in the past. And don't let the Photoshop-ed images fool you. For three years under construction they still only have a banner hanging on the front of the building not a lit sign.

Has potential but under construction
A little hard to find at night because the place is getting remodeled and the signs are missing. Major renovations have things messy and problems with some rooms (Sink backed up when we entered room). Some of the rooms look a little tired and worn but maybe they will get fixed up too. Staff was accomodating, and breakfast was good.

snow day
Though the hotel was a bit out of the way for us, the hotel was a great escape from the snow after 12 hours of driving. The hotel is undergoing construction right now but when finished should be a perfect place to stay. The stay also includes a free breakfast (that was more than just the continental that people are used to).

A nice getaway
The hotel was nice. My boyfriend and I stayed for only one night. The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was finding hairs in the bathroom shower and in my towel.
