Experience the famous birthplace of freedom, without wasting time in traffic, at the centrally located Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. With its skybridge to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 72 meeting rooms, and impressive Grand Ballroom for events, business travelers have access to anything they could possibly want. The on-site Starbucks certainly doesn't hurt in the mornings, either. Guests staying for pleasure will find plenty in the classy environment of the Circ restaurant, comfy alfresco snacking on the 13 Terrace, or the taste of signature Chesapeake striped bass in 13 Restaurant. It doesn't have to be all about lazy days, however; the rowing machines at the Fitness Center and all-weather pool will make sure that visitors break a healthy sweat.
Key facts
  • 1,408 guestrooms
  • Fitness center
  • Indoor pool
  • Valet parking
  • Business Center
  • 8,547-square-feet of meeting space
  • 2 restaurants: 13 and Circ, with open-air terrace
  • On-site Starbucks cafe
  • High-speed Internet (fees may apply)
Neighborhood
Conveniently located in downtown Philly, with the Pennsylvania Convention Center just around the corner and the Liberty Bell only eight blocks away, the Marriott Downtown Hotel Philadelphia is ideally located in every way. SEPTA subway 13th street station is right across the street, as is the Reading Terminal Market, for the oldest consecutive running farmer's market in the nation (and where the Amish community comes to sell their produce). At night the city is all abuzz, with spectacular shows at the Forrest Theatre and plenty of excellent Center City restaurants in the hotel's direct vicinity.
Hints and tips
Valet parking can be fairly expensive and the valet bay is usually quite busy, so if you need directions, get them before you slide behind the wheel, because staff will try to get you going as soon as possible to clear the lane.

Dinner-wise, walk two blocks from the hotel and you'll be in the city's Chinatown district - an essential stop for authentic dim sum and other Asian fare.

This is not a comprehensive list of fees. Any amounts listed above may not include taxes and are subject to change.

Mostly OK

The best thing about this hotel is the location, right next to the Reading Terminal Market. We ate there often. Such a fun place! The location is also convenient to trains and buses and attractions. The room was fine, beds comfy, staff friendly and helpful, etc. The in-room safe was a useful addition. Another chair and maybe a small table would have been useful, but there wasn't enough space for that. Downsides: The biggest downer was not having free wifi in the room. The daily cost to add it was nearly 10% of the room rate. So we tried using the free lobby wifi, as did quite a few other guests, but it was slow and unreliable. Also, the lobby was very, very noisy with after-work party-ers. For this rate, we would have expected a complimentary breakfast. In this case, though, we didn't miss it, and really enjoyed the food at the Market (which was much better than hotel breakfasts tend to be).

We were delighted

The Philadelphia Marriott was a perfect hotel for our long weekend in Philly! We were able to walk to all our favorite venues and restaurants from the hotel: Philadelphia Orchestra at Kimmel Center; the Philadelphia & Rodin Museums; the South Street Festival; the Magic Gardens on South Street; Chris' Jazz Club on Sansom St.; Estia Restaurant on Locust; green Eggs on 13th St; Foods on a First on Arch St; Redding Market; St Peter and Paul Cathedral; plus many more. The room was very comfortable and had a great view of City Hall.

Comfortable stay

The Philadelphia Marriott Downtown is a great location for those attending an event at the Philadelphia Convention Center, which is attached to the hotel. It's also across the street from Reading Terminal Market, which offers a great variety of food options for those staying at the hotel (morning, lunch, and early evening). The hotel room itself was fine-- clean, roomy, and relatively new.

Philly New Years & Mummer parade

Hotel was huge & well appointed. Beds were extremely comfortable & room was spacious & very clean. We were on 19th floor & fire alarm went off in the wee hours of the morning but mgmt was able to determine it was false alarm & announce over speakers before we started down the 19 flights of stairs. Would not have hesitated to evacuate but was grateful we didn't have to since it was in the temp was single digits. Reading Terminal Market across street & lots of regional dining. Maggiano's is on the corner & has excellent Italian dishes & great service. We enjoyed the Mummers parade & competition @ PCC.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

Tip: ask if convention center event will have access through hotel walkway. We chose hotel because it had a walkway to convention center. Unfortunately the event was not accessible thru this walkway & we had to return to rooms for coats to go out on street & stand in line.

Perfect downtown location

In addition to having been provided a comfortable stay with friendly and exceptional service, the location of this hotel was wonderful. It was across the street from Reading Terminal Market, near many good restaurants, and within walking distance of may of the colonial sights.
