I would NOT recommend going to Southside. Someone told me that was a good place to go shopping, but my experience there was less than pleasant. There were very few interesting stores, and it felt dirty and unsafe.

Nice overall experience
Andreality Oct 21, 2009
This was my first trip to Pittsburgh, and I chose to stay at La Quinta based on the price. The hotel is located really close ... to the airport, but relatively far from the sights of the city. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and willing to go the extra mile to help out however they could. They even went into the back office to print out something from my flash drive in preparation for a job interview I had the next day. My room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. A taxi ride to Station Square cost about $40. The taxi ride back from Squirrel Hill cost close to $50. There are several places to eat within walking distance of the hotel, but if you're looking for a place with any character (or any vegetables), you'll have to go into the city. There is a Primanti Bros. just a couple doors down that I thought was a fun place to watch football on Sunday. Overall, I would recommend staying here - my room was clean, the staff were friendly, and the breakfast was decent, especially for the price. But if you're looking to explore the city or do some sightseeing, I'd recommend staying a little bit closer to Pittsburgh.

Good inn, preferred by flight crews
1 day traveler Oct 14, 2009
This was a good airport hotel, and I say it was preferred by flight crews due to observing the other guests at hotel (I am ... not a flight crew member). It had a convenient free shuttle ride from airport (~15 minute trip), free continental breakfast served at 4:30 a.m. or so (plenty of food bagel/waffles/yogurt/fruit/boiled eggs/juice/coffee), clean room, and a friendly staff. A big plus for me was the Pizza Hut, Primanti Brothers bar/restaurant (a local favorite), and some other restaurant right next door to the hotel (all very short walking distance). I didn't have to get a cab or walk a lot in an unknown area to find food, big plus.
Traveler type: Business
The Primanti Brothers sports bar/restaurant looked like a fun place with a bunch of tvs (I got takeout), and they can serve you the local favorite of steak sandwich stuffed with coleslaw/fries. Pretty good overall, and they had a nice menu of choices.

Never been to pittsburgh before we will be back to stay cause of this motel. the lady that check us in very helpful even called a taxi for us. it was awesome getting a shuttle to and from the airport.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater
Lover of Architecture Sep 14, 2009
This is the perfect economic place to stay for a visit to the city of Pittsburgh and Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece ... Fallingwater SE of the city. Coming from San Francisco, I'm spoiled by easy public transportation. La Quinta's free airport shuttle and easy bus service, 2 blocks from the hotel, to all the sites in Pittsburgh will get you to wherever you want to go. I just needed a car for one day to drive to Fallingwater. The rest of my 4 day visit I took the bus into and back from Pittsburgh - no need to park, spend money on gas or negotiate traffic!

The good, the bad and the ugly
Sherry D Sep 1, 2009
Check in day was very nice. There were two female reception staff members who were very pleasant and very accomodating. When ... they worked the desk, the breakfast amenities were stocked. However when the male was there (I think his name was [...]), there was no fruit available, no eggs and only one cereal container was half filled, the other container was empty. On Saturday, the only thing available during his shift was bagels and waffle batter and juice and the half filled cereal container. Out of all of the staff, he seemed the most nonchalant. The reason why I say he was nonchalant is because after coming our workout, my sister and I were unable to enter our room. I went to the front desk thinking maybe my card had to be reactivated. It wouldn't open. The light wouldn't even appear when the keycard was used. I went back downstairs and mentioned that we couldn't get into our room. He replied the maintenance is coming up. Maintenance came up, it turned out that the battery was dead on the door. They had to go outside and climb up the ladder to get into the room. My sister and I waited outside of the door for an hour and a half. One of the desk clerk sent a message by the cleaning lady that we can have four pay-per-view movies free. I have mixed feelings about that because I feel as though it was not an urgent matter since word was sent by the maid.

Primanti Bros. This is a true Pittsburgh style restaurant, with plenty of Steeler memorabilia on the walls and sports playing on all of the big screen TV's. The pizza was second to none. They have a non-smoking section, so families don't feel like they're sitting in a bar.
