Great Swimming Pools

This was our 2nd stay at Willow Valley and it is a comfortable place to stay. However, it is not necessarily elder-friendly. Our room on this stay was technically attached (via interior walls) to the restaurant, but it was quite a long walk which included stairs to get there. I do not recall reading anything in the literature offering a shuttle from room to dining / gift shop. We are still able to get from point A to point B but I did run into several couples who, after a long day of travel, were discouraged by the distance and obstacles involved in getting to the restaurant. Also, since there was a restaurant available (a bit pricey) alternative dining choices were not made readily available in the room. The indoor swimming pools were excellent for families. It is a nice place to stay - not too far from area attractions.

Awesome Experience!

I just returned from a weekend at Willow Valley Inn with my two young granddaughters (6 and 7). Everyone at the resort treated myself and the children perfectly; the waitresses, the children's program coordinators, even the cleaning people! There are crafts for the children; there is a large playground, basketball and tennis courts...and, of course, the wonderful indoor pools! Plus, everything is in walking distance. The room was just right.... large, clean and contained a small refridgerator. We will be back again!

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

The indoor pools in the DoubleTree are just a short walk from the Willow Valley Inn, but be sure to inform the front desk that you want to be located near them; otherwise you could be placed in a room quite a distance from the pools... and it's a pretty COLD walk in the winter time!

Very Nice Hotel

The room was available for check in early which was great. The food available at the restaurants was great and the indoor pools available at both resorts were in great shape.

ok

We called to book a rate posted on the website which stated a promotional rate. Upon arriving at the hotel, the four of us (my wife and I and our 2 daughters) checked in. The person checking us in ([...]) saw our daughters with us and asked who they were and said there is an extra charge ($20/night) for them to stay in the room. We asked why and he said there is always a charge for extra people staying in the room. We told [...]that we were never told this upon making the reservation, but he said we only reserved the room for 2 people and there is an additional charge. We were upset with this because if we were told the rate was $20/night more we may have chosen to stay elsewhere. [...]then became very rude and stated that we had reserved the room for 2 not 4 people and implied that we were lying and trying to sneak 4 people into the room (had we been trying to sneak into the room why would all 4 of us go to the desk to check in?!?!) When making the reservation, I recall stating that my daughter found the rate online, we requested 2 beds, and I thought it was rather obvious that 4 of us would be in the room. We agreed to stay at Willow Valley and work this out with the manager later. We were then told that the bus tour was completely booked (when making the reservation they told us it never fills up and we should just tell them we wanted the tour when we checked in). They then managed to get us on a tour, which was the highlight of our trip. Our tour guide [...]was great and even extended the tour to include an extra stop and make it 3.5hrs. We would have been happy to pay extra for the tour, but did not like the dishonest practices in reservations. We asked to speak to the manager on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and no one was available any of these days. We spoke to another person at the front desk and she stated "Every hotel in the world charges extra for more than 2 people in the room, so it is implied the rates listed are for 2 people." This seemed like a very general statement and we have stayed at many hotels that do not charge extra for more than 2 people in the room. We asked to be called at home and have not heard from anyone. As for the hotel, it is ok. The rooms are fine, the bathrooms are very small. The pool is small and was cold during our stay. They use a lot of chlorine in the pool and jacuzzi and you have to go through the pool area to get to many of the rooms, and the smell is rather strong. Also there was some sort of machine in our room (heating I think) that is constantly on and very loud and annoying. Overall, the hotel is ok. The bus tour they include is great, and had they been upfront with the rate we likely would have chosen to stay here anyway, but we did not like that they changed the rate on us.

Room ok - nice grounds, pools

Positive: The grounds were beautiful and we were provided with an itinerary of events. There seemed to be a lot of activities for children and the pool designed for children was quite attractive. The maintenance department was extremely attentive to repairing a malfunctioning ice machine. The resort is located near a small shopping center (grocery store, pharmacy, movie theater, several fast food choices and other stores) as well has having its own restaurant. Since we were visiting family, we did not take advantage of many offerings, but for anyone visiting the area for several days, this resort is quite suitable. Less than positive: Our room was in the "older" section of the resort and there was evidence of a leak in the ceiling. The bathroom (shower portion) was tiny and there was a plastic towel rack in the shower that could be mistaken for a support rail if one did not notice ahead of time.
