Best $90 Room Ever
Former Valley Girl Oct 5, 2009
The Governor is a lovely grand-style hotel on a small scale. It felt like the kind of place I stayed in with my parents when ... I was a kid in the 60s. The bed was excellent for a couple. Great pillows, cotton sheets. Perfect. Since it was an economy booking we were given a room with no view, but the staff gave us a room with sunshine and a city view when we asked. The bath had lovely gels etc, we felt spoiled. The only downer was that the terry-cloth robes were a bit stiff and scratchy. Perhaps they'd been washed too many times. The restaurant attached -- Jakes Grill - is marvelous. The location is in the center of everything great about Portland. Over all it was a terrific stay.

Entering The Governor you are emersed in an splendor rarely seen in today's hotel industry. Superior, historical architecture ... tastefully done to give your day a comfortable elgeance. Rooms are spacious, clean, well-equipt and the staff is helfpul and efficient. We were there during this Summer's 100+ heat wave, yet remained completely cool & comfortable. Well done!

One good room, one bad room
cc Jun 21, 2009
I was in Portland visiting my daughter and stayed at The Governor on two separate occasions in the last month. The first stay ... I had a very pleasant room located on the third floor looking out onto Alder St. It was spacious, light/bright and tidy. The second stay I had a smaller room on the fourth floor. It was on the opposite side of the building and looked into a neighboring brick building. This room was dark and dingy feeling and alot less welcoming than the first room. Overall this hotel was just fine. It was nothing special but if you are visiting the city and not spending much time in the hotel then it is perfectly suitable. If I had paid full price for the room then I may have felt less satisfied with my stay.

Wonderful stay!
PB Jun 13, 2009
We had a great stay at the Governer Hotel. It was very close to the streetcar & the Max (free within fareless square), which ... made getting anywhere in the city very easy. We took the Max light rail from the airport (~$2.00) and it dropped us off 1 block from the hotel (stop following pioneer square, ~40 minute trip). The staff was wonderful, very patient and helpful with our many questions. We rented a car twice (Enterprise - who were also great to work with) for day trips to the gorge and the coast, they brought the vehicle to us at the hotel, and picked it up the next day. The hotel did not charge us for overnight parking for the rental car and took care of the return for us. They made everything really easy. The attached restaurant (Jake's Grill) has very good food. The "happy hour" from 3-6 has a couple of value priced meals that works out well if you arrive in the afternoon like we did. We will stay here again if we vist Portland in the future.
