good not great

The best thing about this hotel is the location. The beds are also very comfortable. Staff was pleasant but maybe a bit slow.... When asked for a nearby diner recommendation for breakfast, a blank stare was the reply. The hotel has a large Starbucks attached to it, which for us is a negative. With all the good/great local coffee in Portland-- Stumptown! It was unfortunate to have such a middlebrow chain attached to this local landmark hotel. Recommended, but if you are looking for Luxe, this is not it.

anniversary trip

My husband and I recently did a NW tour starting in Seattle and ending up in San Francisco. This was by far our favorite hotel of the trip! The minute we checked in, we were presented with a map on which the woman who helped us marked places of interest. It was in a great location. We walked everywhere...restaurants, breweries, shopping. The rooms were great, very quaint. I loved the decor of the whole hotel, green hotel room doors and rock band posters included. My ONLY complaint would be that we stayed on the second floor, and the street noise was a little loud. Again, we were downtown. They did provide ear plugs for us so this must be something they've heard before. Overall, it was very good. We would definitely stay here again!

Excellent stay in downtown Portland

We had one of the handicapped-equipped queen rooms without a view. The room was spacious, good looking and comfortable as was the bath. The hotel is close to at least 3 light rail lines which we used everyday to travel to NE Portland where our family lives. I would stay here again.

Historic hotel with a modern twist

The hotel is located near the Pearl district and close to shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. Also is centrally located to public transit so we didn't even rent a car until we left the city to head to wine country. Definitely ask for a pint of salt & straw ice cream to be brought up to your room if you can't make it to one of their shops or the line is too long. Only wish they had a pool because it was super hot while we were there!

Great hotel and location

I stayed here for the Rock and Roll Portland Half and was less than a 15 minute walk away from the start line. The hotel room is Portland quirky, with a large bathroom (mine had a skylight) and fireplace. It was right on the Tri Met line for the airport and a block or two away from most restaurants. It also has a Starbucks that served small plates, beer, and wine and was open after hours. I requested a fan because of the rain and had a fan in my room upon my arrival. It was a fantastic stay, the room matched the awesomeness of the staff!

Excellent Conference Venue

I chose this hotel as it was the official conference venue for my recent trip. The hotel has been recently renovated/restored to its previous glory. It is beautiful and full of wonderful architectural detail. The staff were extremely friendly and competent. Upon check-in all of the porters were busy, so the desk agent took my bags to my room for me. During the conference I needed/wanted several special items, like additional tables set up, glass blocks to support some mechanical equipment, and even milk for my own personal enjoyment when it was not on the menu. I stopped the first staff person I saw and in each of the many instances - that person instantly took care of the issue with grace and a smile. What wonderful service. The only reason I did not give room comfort full marks was because the rooms are quite dark. They are beautiful - mine was a gorgeous forest green, but the dark colors of the paint and the dark woods sucked up much of the light. It was not uncomfortably dark - just perpetual 'mood' lighting. I would definitely stay again!
