Great stay at Modera

Our family arrived after a week of camping, a bit dirty and smelly. The staff were super friendly & knowledgeable. The room smelled a bit musty or maybe it was from a smoker... the tv didnt' end up playing the movie our boys wanted but the staff did give us a discount on our parking. Best calamari I've ever had in the restaurant. Thanks Modera

Nice hotel, would stay there again.

Staff was courteous and hospitable. The hotels and rooms were beautiful. The attached restaurant was trendy and fun. Public transit is really close, and you're also close to the university district. Shopping and trendier shops are further north and will require a bit of walking or short transit ride to get there. There is a 24 hour fitness a block away, which you have free access to. I wish there was a pool and hot tub located in the hotel itself though. Overall, not bad for $200 in downtown.

A Gem!

Parking was valet at $30 a night w/in n out. That's the norm. Hotel was older design (70's?) but looked modern and clean inside. Greeted with efficient and friendly staff. Check in was a breeze. No gym in hotel but they give free passes to the 24Hour Fitness that is in corner of the building. Good open room plan for the average size. Very inviting bed (could have been a bit more comfortable) and great sized bathroom. Room was a bit dark but not depressing. Free wifi.Very good bar/restaurant with additional outdoor seating that has the gas fire pits. Love them! Keeps you warm on a cool Portland night.

Hotel Modera is an excellent location for adventure

We didn't want to have to drive around downtown Portland in holiday traffic and were very pleased with the location of the Modera in the University district. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful in guiding us to the museums, public transportation and restaurants. Powell's bookstore was only a mile walk and we could hop free buses and the MAX when we tired ourselves out. The hotel was very clean, secure and comfortable. The marble shower was wonderfully relaxing after a day of adventures. We would definitately stay there again. Only limitation was the closet space was pretty small and there was no fan for the bath, but they had treated the mirrors to not steam up.Overall, it is one of the nicest places we've stayed at in Portland for a reasonable price.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Take advantage of free public transport options in the downtown area to avoid traffic and parking hassles, especially on holidays. Free bus lines take you everywhere. Wish Seattle was as visitor friendly.

Centrally located

The hotel had a bright and modern appearance to it. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Room was comfortable, clean. Had some problem with the heating the first night, second night was fine. Coffee maker is not exactly safe - spewed out hot steam at the end of the brewing process. Public transportation was abundant and easily accessible. Downtown Portland is easy to get around. Went shopping, sightseeing, checked out a number of eateries. Visited the Japanese Gardens - very beautiful. Overall had an enjoyable time.
