Great stay downtown

We had a wonderful time staying at the Benson. It was so close and convenient to many places that are located downtown. We enjoyed the lobby and it was comfortable enough to sit by the fire and read.

Hanging out in Portland!

Very Classy Place! We found Parking was Difficult in down town Portland! We were able to park next door and walk through a tunnel to the Benson! They also Valet Park! We arrived a few Hours early....But They let us check in early so we were able to start exploring the area! All the staff was friendly and Helpful. The feeling of History was all over the Place. The room was average size and bathroom was small but worked fine! There were some noises from the street at night but still was fine. The Beds were super comfortable!

Iconic Hotel MIsses The Mark

The Benson is an "important" hotel in Portland, Oregon. After a recent overnight stay, I have to wonder why. The halls were dark and gloomy. The room, very small, very cold (heat at 80 couldn't warm it up)," city view" was of air conditioning units et. al. I suspected I was paying just for the beautiful lobby when upon finding my room realized it didn't even have a coffee maker-puh-leeze, what is up with that. Motel 6 has more in room amenities. I would recommend this hotel to no one, and must wonder what impression the various Presidents who have stayed there must have of beautiful Portland, Oregon. This hotel again-never.

Business Traveler

The Benson is steps from downtown with a classic elegance and comfortable rooms. The biggest drawback were the restaurants which while good were expensive. Additionally, the Benson is a longish walk to any other decent, inexpensive eateries.

very comfortable, great location.

a few short blocks to any light rail station, and a stone's throw to powell's bookstore and to other shops/restaurants in the pearl district. staff was very friendly and informative. i had a bit of a slow tub drain that i informed the front desk about, and it was totally fixed by the next time i used it. they were very responsive. i'd definitely recommend this place! i'm a sucker for the little details - this place had super comfy bathrobes and a hair dryer that wasn't deafening!

Love Portland and the Benson

This is a beautiful old hotel that is very inviting with it's early western /turn of the 19th century decor. The food is very good (try some of the bar food...terrific) and the staff attempts to please and had a smile for you each time you went to the desk. The things that need improving would be the addition of direct TV and an update/expansion of the workout room. Overhead exhausts in the bathroom should be installed. The price, however, was excellent when combined with air fair through ORBITZ. I prefer the better price than the increase expense of updates I mentioned. I would certainly stay there again when I am in Portland!
