Not much for the price

My family has stayed at this hotel several times over the past 4 years. Each stay has been average but the last one was marred. For the price, the room itself was very average; clean but in need of updating, the bedspreads were worn and the pillows warped. The first night we could hear our neighbour coughing from 9 pm- 3 am. The second night we enjoyed our floor vibrating from the live band directly below our room until after midnight. Why would a hotel with empty rooms, place guests directly above a loud party? The hotel did comp us a breakfast for the nuisance but we have paid less for a room where breakfast was included. Aside from the nice fireplace in the lobby and decent breakfast, I am hard pressed to find a reason to return.

Cafe Yumm is a delicious, fresh and healthy choice. Always had great meals at many of their Eugene locations. Vegan and Gluten Free items on their menu!

Picturesque and convenient!

We arrived too early to check in, but the people at the front desk gladly took our bags and held them for us until our room was ready. We had a delicious lunch on the patio overlooking the bike path and the river. The shopping mall is in walking distance of the hotel which can be a curse or a blessing. My only complaint was that the room we had was a long distance from the front desk (in another building)so bringing our suitcases to and from the room was not convenient.

painful hotel experience

I felt like I was actually staying at the "Hotel California". As in you can check out any time you like but you can never leave. Poor signage within the sprawling hotel to help you figure out how to get from point "A" to point "B". The advertised WIFI access was nonexistent on my first day, spotty on the second. The plug-in high speed internet access worked well, but the way the cords were tacked to the wall I could only use my laptop standing up in the corner of the room wedged between the credenza and the wall. The cold water taps on the two sinks only offered up hot water. Speaking of the two sinks, the taps turned different directions to turn off and on - one was clockwise, the other counterclockwise. Nothing all out terrible - but lots of small things that added up to a frustrating stay.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

there's a sizeable mall across the way - but be vigilant when making the walk. To compound my experience within the hotel itself a car stopped and started shouting expletives and other slurs my way.

Uncaring, rundown hotel

I've been staying at the Valley River Inn sporatically for the past 10+ years for business. The hotel is outdated, not well maintained, and overpriced for what it offers. I've stayed there solely for the location. Earlier this month, I stayed there for one night. I woke up the next morning horribly sick and unable to travel. The hotel was booked so I was given 1 hour to leave. They found me a room several miles away but didn't make a reservation for me and quoted me the incorrect rate. However, the Comfort Inn in Springfield turned out to be a newer, cleaner, better appointed room for less money. I've found my new hotel in Eugene.

Sub par hotel.

Very disappointed with the Valley River Inn in Eugene. We were traveling throughout Oregon and this was our 2nd to last hotel stay; considering the cost ($197) and the descriptions we read, we really expected SO MUCH MORE. The room wasn't the one we booked (asked for a King, got 2 queens). The carpeting was old and stained and the shower was moldy. For that price we expected a Continental breakfast, we received nothing! We're staying at a Shilo Inn near Portland tonight for $80 WITH BREAKFAST! The room is cleaner too! I will never recommend The Valley River Inn to anyone. Ridiculous price.

Wouldn't recommend Valley River Inn

We were in town for my son's State Track Meet. I found the hotel to be outdated, a bit dirty, their wireless internet was working but I had to speak to a tech for 30 + min. to get it working. The restaurant was so overpriced we drove someplace else to eat. The location was good. Next to a mall and a lot of decent restaurants. Also close to the freeway which was good. Overall.....I didn't really like it there. It's non-smoking but it still smells from the days there was smoking allowed.

Down by the riverside

Last year at this hotel, we had a queen bed room overlooking the pool and were delighted with the atmosphere near the river. This year, we paid twice the price for a large king size bed room that over looked a parking lot for a strip mall. Though the room was spacious and clean with a small fridge, microwave, couch and chair, we really didn't need or use the extras. If we ever stay there again, we'll try a river front room.

The river walk is lovely. There is a large shopping mall across the street with a movie theatre and several good restaurants nearby.

comfy cozy

Since I was there on a business trip, I did not have the time to fully enjoy the hotel. I did have a chance to order room service which was excellent and fast. The room was very comfortable, I enjoyed having a balcony. The hotel is within walking distance to a mall which always makes me happy :)

Poor Choice of Hotel

My wife and I were very excited to visit Eugene again especially in the fall. When we arrived, everything seemed to just wonderful. We noticed that the WiFi was NOT working and I spent 30 minutes on the phone with some tech from out of the area who treated me like I didn't even know how to turn on my computer. It did NOT get fixed and they were too busy at the hotel to help. Next we decided to go to dinner at the hotel restaurant. (more on that later). In navigating through the halls and lobby area we were besieged by children of all ages running uncontrollably and throwing candy and trash all about. it was like running a guantlet just to get into the restaurant, which was a safe haven and the food was FANTASTIC!!!! As we left, we had the same gauntlet of wild children that was simply uncalled for at this hotel. The next day in the AM we again requested assistance to fix the WiFi and spent another 30 minutes with some out of the area tech who wouldn't listen to my simple diagnosis of the issue, the modem in our room wasn't working. I politly hung up and called the front the desk and a very nice person named Nathan from the hotel worked with us for about 30 minutes to correct the issue. We then left for our scheduled event in Eugene only to return around 4PM to find that our room WAS NOT cleaned. Our decision was simple, we packed our bags and left. I would not go back to this hotel nor recommend it with the excepting of the restaurant.
