My first room smelled like a old smelly sock, but I had no problem getting a new room assigned (+1 for the staff). It's a step above the other national-brand cheap hotels, but not by much.

amenities were "Temporarily out of order" for 4 days!
Unfortunately the spa was "temporarily out of order" for our entire 4 day stay, over New Years holiday. The room was small but adequate, the bed was low end, and the shower had thick black mold in the gap between the tub top and shower walls. The staff was nice and friendly. The continental breakfast has wrapped up long before checkout time, so by 1030 am there is only coffee and OJ left, even though there were still people coming in searching for food... I get it if the waffle maker and the donuts are done, but atleast restock the bread and cereal for us... The place was quiet and next door to several good well known restaurants.

Bugs and smokers
Beware of smokers and weird bugs in the bathtub. We stayed in room #333, and found a couple dozen springtails in the bathtub. The pool was murky, and smokers couldn't care if their cigarette ashes or smoke affected anyone. The rooms are non-smoking, but given the abundance of smokers no enforcement was to be seen. Parking lot had broken glass from an apparent smash-n-grab, no one from the motel bothered to sweep it up for at least three days. Cigarette butts litter all over the place. Would not stay again.

Visiting family
The first room they put us in was right by the elevator and pop machine, which made it almost impossible to sleep. We asked to be moved, the morning female desk clerk was more than happy to move us, and said that it would be no problem for us to switch that evening, The evening male desk clerk was a jerk about it, and said that they don't usually do that, but he would this time since the other clerk had told us we could.

Days Inn Portland South
room was clean, bed was a bit hard, but pillows were comfy. The front desk person was very helpful. She took care of a "lack of cancellation" issue that Orbitz was supposed to do but did not follow through on. She contacted them and figured it out for us and then gave us a call in our room to tell us the information. I will stay at a Days Inn in the future.

Met our needs
We were there to visit family, the hotel met all our needs. It was clean, and for the most part quiet. The only thing that we wish they had provided was more variety in the breakfast menu, like scrambled eggs, or biscuits and gravy, since we spent 5 days there, the basics got kind of boring.
