Best experience I've had at a "chain" hotel

This was the best experience I've had at a "Chain" hotel in a long time. This was the first hotel stay in at least two years that I could not hear any obnoxious drunk door slammers at 2am shouting to their buddies down the hall. (though I understand the hotel doesn't have much control over the guests, it is still true). The front desk staff appeared to actually enjoy helping customers: a rarity with chain hotels in my experience. Well done guys. I really liked the arrangement they had with the restaurant next door, rather than having a cramped in-house continental breakfast.

Outrageously over priced

Find anywhere else to stay if you want to sleep at night. Between the trains that run constantly and the bugs you are in for a horrid experience.

Wonderful experience

After a day of sightseeing in the Columbia River Gorge it was nice to come to our room and sit with the window open and look down at the Columbia River and Bridge to the Gods. Beds were comfortable and room was large enough to accommodate a roll away and two beds and still have room to move around. Free breakfast provided to us by the restaurant next door was terrific! Still can't forget the taste of those pancakes!

Columbia Gorge Interpretative Center is just across the bridge on the Washington side of the river. Well worth the visit. Had a BOGO in free coupon from Groupon for the museum.

Great river view!

Very nice and spacious room. Mini fridge was a nice amenity as well as wifi and breakfast vouchers. Comfortable beds and strong shower water flow. Beautiful views of the Columbia River. Con is hearing the train rumble by periodically but I'm a sound sleeper but hotel does provide earplugs. Friendly staff!

A Delightful Surprise

We were faced with the decision of whether to continue into a severe storm (driving an oversized moving truck with cats and tired crabby men in tow) or stopping for the night. This hotel was one of the few choices available to us late at night with little to no advance reservation. I was hesitant but exhausted, so we decided to test our luck. Prior to booking online, I called the hotel directly to see if they could/would match the online price - no luck. Their price was $40.00 higher. Check-in was smooth, we informed the friendly girl at the desk that we were traveling with a cat and she explained the $10.00 pet fee. No problem, but it did leave me concerned that there might be odor or lingering "evidence" that pets had stayed there before. This was not the case. The room was spotlessly clean - all I was looking for really - but it was also included a refrigerator, microwave, table & chairs, and 2 *actually comfortable* queen beds. Best of all was a lovely view of the river, in spite of the fact that the pet rooms are not the "river view" rooms. I can't imagine the views from the ones that are river view. Breakfast was what we expected - typical "complimentary hot breakfast" hotel style. Cheese omelettes, make your own waffles, sausage, biscuits & gravy... 5 star cuisine it wasn't - but there was nothing to complain about -- and it filled up the boys which was the primary goal. The "missing stars" in our review are compliments of the price and the check-out staff. While the girl at check-in the night before was sweet and helpful, the woman behind the desk in the AM seemed to view every phone call and guest as a personal inconvenience. She was curt and bordering on rude. I explained that I needed to pay the pet fee because it was not included in my original credit card charges. She seemed distressed that she had to log onto the computer to take our payment. Possibly the worst customer service I've ever had at this chain of hotels. As I mentioned, we had few options (we were obviously not the only travelers looking for "emergency accommodations"} but I speculated that the storm and the stranded travelers caused the hotel to increase their prices to take advantage of people forced into staying with them. If that is the case, I trust that karma will get them in the end. If that is not the case, the hotel is rather overpriced -even given the lovely rooms and especially considering the lack-luster breakfast and unpleasant AM staff. I have stayed in much better hotels for much less money, and had a much nicer experience. Would I stay there again? Definitely. Would I recommend it to a friend? I already have. Will I contact the corporate office about the staff? You'd better believe I will.

Buy gas BEFORE you reach Cascade Falls. It is far more expensive in town than it is in surrounding areas.

Great

It was a great get away - only disappointment was the pool was really loud with kids when sitting in the hottub. I have kids, love them but on a night get-a-way from kids... would of loved to not listen to a boy screaming in the pool to echo.

A delightful anniversary

When we mentioned that we were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary, the desk clerk updated us to a river view room. We were right on the Columbia just below the Bridge of the Gods. The view was awesome. The room was nicely appointed. It was nice having a loveseat rather than sitting on the bed to watch TV. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast buffet offered a very good variety of choices. The help were very friendly. They made celebrating our 56th anniversary very special.

Viewing the old Cascade Locks which now have fishing platforms for the local natives was interesting. Walking out on Thunder Island was great. The Lorang Art Gallery offers a variety of art and crafts plus some antiques.

Magnificent

This hotel has a magnificent location. I am so happy I booked a river view room. It was so nice to sit in the sitting area in our room (sofa and 2 comfortable side chairs and just look out the window to see beautiful views of the river and bridge. I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the room. Even the corners and behind the dressers/tables were spotless.

Motel well placed for the Gorge

We stayed three nights and had a room overlooking the Bridge of the Gods and the Columbia river-spectacular. Like many hotels in the gorge it also overlooks the rail line and massive freight trains rattle past your window periodically in the day and night. This didn't bother us, but the management helpfully provide ear plugs for more sensitive sleepers. A full continental breakfast is included in the room price, but for eating out at night the range of restaurants at the Locks is limited, but Hood River has more places.
