Ham radio convention hotel... Nice!

This hotel is downtown Dayton, with easy on/off access from I-75. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean the Dayton downtown streets are kept, and how very quiet it was during the evening hours, Thursday and Friday. A negative was the remodeling of the hotel's restaurant. Another was no garage elevator, and no one paying attention to parkers taking up two spaces. All in all, I would come back here next year for the biggest ham radio convention in the USA. About 30,000 folks come to Hara's Arena just north of the downtown area.

just okay

When i called a few days ahead to confirm my reservation they couldn't find my reservation. The desk clerk said that he would have it faxed it over again to them and then call me to confirm. He never did. I called again a few days later and a second clerk found it after a few minutes of searching. When we arrived the parking garage was unattended and we had to go in to find out that it was full and we were to park across the street. When we went down for breakfast in the morning the restaurant was closed.

Great place to stay

I had a wonderful experience at the Dayton Grand Hotel. The staff was very helpful when needed and the location is in a good spot. I did not like the parking situation as it is dark at night and you do have to be aware of your surroundings. Overall it was a pleasant 3 night stay and the price was right.

Stayed two extra days

I would recommend this hotel for anyone staying in the downtown area of Dayton. The staff was awesome when my computer went down. they offered to help me with my rental car reservations online. My pc started to work again so I did not need to use the computer but the staff went out of there way to offer. the pool and fitness center is awesome. Great stay!! The parking is tight and a little scary but rest assured it is free and just watch yourself. The bottem line is that it is a great place to stay being in downtown. Great eateries and coffee cafe's.

Your description is out of date

I noticed right away that your description is out of date because three of the four companies you list as being near the hotel are no longer in Dayton, and have not been for some time. This hotel was formerly the Double Tree which I heard withdrew it's franchise because the hotel was not being kept up to its standards. Just thought you should know.

Dayton Grand Hotel

The staff is very attentive and helpful. Very accommodating. The rooms are clean but the hotel shows its age. Breakfast is served but no lunch nor dinner is available at the hotel. At night, outside the hotel, darkness brings a little angst when one sees the nightfolk about. The hotel warns that it is not responsible for your safety in the parking garage. The parking garage has an insufficient number of parking spaces. Still,if you are working downtown, or close by, the hotel is an acceptable place to stay; I had a great response from various staff members and wish them well in their efforts to improve the hotel and its offerings. Overall, It was a more positive experience rather than a negative one.

Good for the price

The king-size bed sagged toward the middle. The room was too warm (it lacked a thermostat and the windows could not be opened); when we called the desk about it the attendant said the only solution would be moving to a new room. The bathroom lacked an exhaust fan, so the mirror steamed up. Our daughter enjoyed the pool but the whirlpool (mentioned in advertisements) appeared to have been out of service for months. On the plus side, the room attendants did excellent work, the downtown location was great, the parking was free, and the price was inexpensive.
