The hotel is located nicely to interstate with plenty of restaurants all around. The hotel is being updated which is making the rooms look much more elegant and up to the standards of what I expect from hotels of the present. Unfortunately our
newly updated room had a very strong smoke odor. We had requested a non-smoking room but yet we were given a smoking room - the hotel was fully booked leaving us no ability to move to another room. As a nonsmoker I did not realize there were still hotels that allowed smoking in the rooms and have not encountered a smoke-smelling hotel room since the mid-90s although I do not recall being asked previously at other hotels if I preferred a smoking or non-smoking room. We checked in with one staff member who seemed to make it clear we were an inconvenience and was rather cold and short with us. The staff member who checked us out at a very early morning time was extremely friendly. The unfriendly staff member and smoke-smelling room dropped the hotel rating from 4 stars to 2 stars as the comfort/cleanliness of the room and the hospitality of the staff are, to me, the most important factors to determine the overall experience and my likelihood to return.
