I stayed at this hotel for business, but we also went to the Cleveland Cavs game and the arena was only a couple of blocks ... away which was great. The hotel is an older building so some of the amenities (fitness center in particular) are not new, but totally functional and convenient. Breakfast was somewhat ordinary, but i find this at most hotels in this price range. The wood floors in the rooms are nice (my room was huge by the way), but it does make it a bit noisy at times. All in all a good experience and I would have no problem staying there again, or recommending to someone else.

MrsLou Oct 9, 2009
Friendly staff, convenient parking. The only drawback was at 7:45am the jackhammers started downstairs from us. The ... redevelopment is well worth the noise. The downtown area was very classy, as good as NYC. I am looking forward to going back.

Historic, but NOISY!
Tim- just passing through. Sep 10, 2009
The hotel is in a great location, and the lobby is impressive. The halls and rooms are another story. Both have low-end ... builders grade hardwood floors, that are not done particularly well in that there are raised fasteners that are not nice to step on and are ugly. There was a noticible amount of "grit" or dirt on the floors. They were not cleaned or vacuumed well. The worst part about the floors is that there is nothing--in the room or out, to absorb sound. I was in a relatively nice room on the 14th floor that had a nice view. It was a Saturday night, and there were an enormous number of men who had rooms on my floor. It sounded like some type of reunion, perhaps college or otherwise. All night long I had to listen to their doors slam closed, as well as their general loud banter and rowdiness. I was up all night. I was still awake at 4:30 Sunday morning when I heard the last door slam. Each time the doors were shut sounded like an explosion. It was incredibly offensive and unnerving. Much of this would have been tolerable if the floors were carpeted with a thick rubber underlayment pad. Inside and out! The doors would benefit from some foam or lated weather stripping around the frames where door contact is made to absorb some of the sound the heavy doors make. A hotel like this should be carpeted! The hardwood is a "nice idea", but as I said before, is badly done and pointless because of the noise. The staff were nice, friendly and helpful. I did try on 3 occasions to reach the desk from my room and was unsuccessful. No answer. It just rang and there was no recording to leave a message. I had to travel down to the lobby to make contact. I would not stay there again unless I knew it was carpeted. That is my biggest complaint. That's probably obvious.

The hotel staff was helpful, friendly and to the point. The room was very clean, and the building was quite nice in general. The rates were good for being in the downtown. Hotel Highlights Hero's Hometown
Scott-Superman Fan Jul 12, 2009
Travelling to Cleveland to discover the birthplace of Superman? Well, staying at the Holiday Inn Express in downtown ... Cleveland will offer any guest a fantastic experience. Located in the heart of historic district, this hotel is within a pleasant walking distance to Cleveland's hotspots and historic sites. I was very impressed with the hotel's architecture, as the building was an old bank and trust, and built in the late 1800's. Holiday Inn Express has performed a complete renovation and upgrade to the structure and the rooms are superb! The unique character of this former bank is not lost in this hotel. Beautiful wood-grained guest room doors and guilded art-deco structural appointments will not disappoint the guests seeking a unique hotel experience with a historic flair. Quiet, comfortable and well-appointed rooms, offer the guests a very roomy and restful stay. The beds were big and extra-large pillows were a welcome treat to this well-worn road warrior. One of the signature elements of this hotel is the cinnamon rolls offered at breakfast. Fresh, warm and seemingly straight from grandma's kitchen, these rolls are a delightful treat at breakfast. However, many other breakfast items were offered: hot & cold cereals, yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage, home fries, french toast, and an assortment of breads and biscuits. The all-important, morning coffee, was very good, and the hotel offered up regular & decaf in light and dark roasts. Also, an assortment of teas were available during breakfast. Getting back to those cinnamon rolls.. interestingly enough, the hotel has really embraced the cinnamon theme, that even the bath soap, body wash and shampoo, offer a slight fragrance of cinnamon. I was pleasantly surprised while washing up after a long day of travel, and smelling the hint of cinnamon in the soaps. Very pleasant, indeed! I also must point out that the staff of this hotel were extrodinarily friendly, courteous and helpful. They were knowledgable about local area points of interest, parking and the variety of transportation options that are available to all guests. In comparison with other trips I have taken, I would have to rate this experience as one of the best. Cleveland is filled with interesting things to see and the city can boast of its cleanliness. Residents of Cleveland are very friendly, as most people are proud of this city and what it has to offer.

Best bet for saving money in Cleveland, purchase an all-day transit pass, or a multi-day pass if you are staying in Cleveland for longer periods of time. The msas transit system in the Cleveland metropolitan area is a fantastic way to get around, without having to rent a car. The trains and buses run often and are right on time! The RTA seems to take great pride in providing top quality service to the metropolitan area. An all day pass is only $4.50 and is good from the time of purchase until 3am the next morning. Purchasing transit cards are easy, as most stations have self-serve kiosks that take cash or credit cards. However, if you get on at a station that doesn't have an available kiosk, you may purchase your card on the train, although you must have exact change, as some train operators do not carry currency. A good way to get into the city is by taking the Red-Line rapid transit train from the airport, directly to downtown. The trip takes about 30 minutes and it drops you off in the heart of the city. Many additional transportation options are available from downtown, and if you purchase an all-day pass, you are good to go.

We made the trip to Cleveland specifically for the Il Divo concert at the Wolstein Center. When we arrived we inquired about ... possibly walking to the center (less than 1 mi. away). We were advised not to do that. Instead the young woman hired us a van to take us and bring us to and from the concert. That was absolutely PERFECT! What a joy!
