Potential aplenty...two hotels, 1 conference center

We booked our stay at this hotel because a friends wedding ceremony was being held here. Due to booking through an on-line travel company, they didn't know we were with the wedding so they put us in a room away from all the wedding activities in the older part of the hotel. This room is on the back side of the property (in the tower) that looks like the original hotel. It had a large extended stay population with dingy carpet and the distinct smell of years of smoke. The room was clean, shower was hot. Once we moved into the newer part of the hotel it was like going across the tracks. The room was much better than the tower. Huge bath tub, nice shower, more comfortable bed and no strange smells. If you aren't there for the event and on is going on in the Atrium, you might as well join in on the fun, because you aren't going to get any sleep until it is complete. The conference rooms were very nice. There were a few places that the ceiling tiles need to be replaced and some things that could use a little sprucing up, but overall it was a really nice facility. We spent time in 3 different large rooms (200+ people) and enjoyed all of them. Not sure if it was supplied by the hotel, but the staff started tearing down after the wedding before the reception was complete. It was a bit distracting and caused everything to end earlier than it should have. Overall the Atrium has a lot of potential. The older rooms need a deep cleaning to get rid of the old smoke smell and there are a few details that can be cleaned up that will make this a go to destination for all in one wedding venue.

Great Hotel for the Price

Our only issue was we asked if the hotel had a pool or hot tub because we were extremely sore from a previous event & was looking fwd to relaxing our muscles. They told us they no longer had the pool but did have jacuzzi tubs but there were not hot tubs or jacuzzi tubs in the room or the hotel. Complimentary breakfast ended at 9am which we thought was early. Other than that the hotel smelled nice was very clean in the room & the staff was great! Parking seemed safe as well. Great room for the price!

Not so great

We were there for a wrestling tournament and the hotel was about 10 miles from the tournament. There were several options to choose from for dining. The hotel needed a lot of repairs. Carpets were older, mini fridge didn't work, shower head clip was broken ( which caused the shower head to fall and hit my son) Overall, wasn't the best hotel, but sure could have been worse. No bugs or anything like that just needs a little renovation. Staff was polite and helpful. The area was decent as well.,which was nice. If you are ever in need of a place for a reception, the hotel has a very nice, large, open area for that.

Review

The hotel left a lot to be desired and their advertising was deceptive. Since my stay and complaint, they have edited both their website and their description on this travel site. The hotel is located in a run down mall area, the views are of parking lots and decaying mall areas. The their website and this travel site's entry both showed a lovely pool inside an enclosed atrium that the tower rooms looked out upon. This pool has been torn up and as we stayed there, was being replaced with a giant tile floor so you look out on a big, open and echoing barren area. The atrium smelled like flooring adhesive and the upper floor rooms were filled with the smell as well according to other guests. The entire hotel was obviously older and needed remodeling, you could see the wear and tear from the beat up door frames and loosed door knobs and locks to the rattling elevator. The room was large and clean but basic. They provided a whole three small pillows for a king sized bed with two people. The television remote didn't work and when we called down to the office for assistance we were told someone would be down to fix it...no one ever came. The cable reception was horrible, the first twenty channels were so full of static, you couldn't watch and of course the single premium channel was among those. It took us going to the front desk personally the next day to get it fixed and the staff seemed very put out to deal with it. The maid service woke us up at 8 something in the morning and we asked them to pls return later. When we returned that evening, someone had apparently been in our room as they used towels were gone but the trash cans were left full and the bed was unmade. The room price was a bit lower than one would expect, so we didn't push or complain to get a refund, etc. but frankly without a great deal of work and better amenities, they certainly shouldn't be able to justify raising their prices past the fifty dollar mark. I had thought I was getting a lucky off season break an a three star hotel but I got exactly what I paid for at fifty a night.
