Akron silo

Liked the idea of staying in such a unique setting. It was interesting to see walls made up of about eight inches of concrete. Ours was an interior room and the lack of a window was unsettling. Overall a good experience but realize that the hotel doubles as a dorm for the university. Be prepared for the occasional scream or slammed door.

Quick Stay at Quaker Inn

We stopped at the Quaker Inn when I couldn't locate anything else in the area apart from the Sheraton Suites at $185+. This was an odd one -- interesting concept (rooms in old round silos) and reception decor, but lackadaisical front desk service, rooms and atmosphere. It appears to be mostly student housing for the University of Akron and they aren't making much effort for other visitors; good location within walking distance of the Akron Art Museum and some quirky restaurants such as Crave. The attached Grill restaurant is clearly geared toward some not-very-demanding or sophisticated students, and isn't worth the effort. The breakfast wasn't bad -- I particularly liked the oatmeal! Given the mediocre service, I thought it overpriced. Could be very interesting with a boutique-style refurbishing for the non-student accomodations (maybe an ice machine within easy access?), better lighting, and some out-of-the-box thinking. I'd recommend it if the price were right, but it was a disappointment as is.

Crave (across from the Art Museum) is worth a visit; very creative if pricey menu. Service wasn't much; you might do better with reservations or a night when some attention was being paid to the front room instead of the party in back. Valet parking is next door at $4. The area appeared fairly safe but was pretty much deserted in the early evening hours.

Hotel built out of a Quaker Oat Mill & Silo

I love a good Kitchey hotel: this one, with its artwork and factory structure reminds me of the mid 70's. Very clever use of old grain storage silos - the rooms are situated inside the silos. The room was comfortable, the facility is welll-cared for, the breakfast was nicely done, the location is in the heart of Akron, and the staff was friendly and helpful. For those who are train enthusiasts, or those with children, it's even better. My only complaint is that noise seems to travel from adjacent rooms where the rooms are clustered. Other than that, I really like this place and reccommend it for those who are looking for a break from the cookie-cutter fashion of the Hotel chains

Front desk doesn't know policies.

I've stayed at the Quaker Square Inn once before with my husband...this time was for my sister's bachelorette party. The hotel itself is beautiful and unique as well and conveniently located. The ONLY complaint that I have is the front desk staff specifically. I called ahead because I was having one of the other bridesmaids check into the 2 rooms that I booked. I booked them under her name for check in, but under my name/credit card. The site even gave that option. I called four our five days before our stay to make sure that the other girl would have no problem checking in to the rooms even though I was paying for them. The man I talked to looked up the reservation and told me there would be no problem. I wasn't going to be able to make it before the other girls and wanted them to be able to get ready to go out to dinner. When I arrived the girl at the front desk had made the other bridesmaid put one of the two rooms on HER credit card and then transferred it to mine when I got there and gave me the keys to the second room THEN. I explained to her that I was NOT at all happy that the party had to get ready in one room since I had called a head to make sure this would not be an issue...that's what the rooms were for primarily! She of course told me that it was policy that a credit card be present for the person paying for the room. The man a few days before didn't know this? Then she went on to say that I probably worded my question to him wrong and confused him...of course the whole thing is my fault even though I went out of my way to double check. So, would I stay there again? Probably. Am I thrilled with the service? Yes, other than the front desk...who blames their customers for a miscommunication on their behalf and offers zero compensation for not being able to use a room that wasn't available even though it was booked a head of time, paid for, and confirmed.

Nice

Unique experience. However, the rooms are awkwardly shaped and kind of distort the make up of the room. It's as nice as you are going to get in Akron. Overall, a good experience.

No full service restaurant

For the price of the stay at this hotel we were expecting full service with a dining room that served dinner on-site. There is a beautiful restaurant, but it only served breakfast. We had to go downtown (4 blocks away) for dinner. And the city of Akron is full of homeless drunks staggering all over the sidewalks. We were shocked. The hotel itself is a novelty in interesting to see. At one time it must have had full service.

fine, but basically a dorm

This place is certainly acceptable for a trip to UofA, but nothing more. It is mostly filled with students overflowing from the dorms.

Interesting, worn out, but safe

Hotel is conceptually interesting particularly in a recycling/green era (hotel is fabricated from grain silos). Early on, I understand it was lovely. But now it is owned by the university. Softgoods are old and threadbare. My room was missing light switches, lightbulbs and 3 of the four lamps in the room had been unplugged. The food outlets are apparently staffed by students with varing degrees of training. Suggestion - When five folks show up to order lunch, take all five orders at once. Don't take and make each order sequentially. Also, hotel now has no alcohol license. Not a biggy, but a nightcap is out of the question. Sorry to say, this is on life support.

Very unique inn

This is a very unique inn. The rooms are located in the silos. Yes, I said silos. The rooms are round and very roomy. The front desk staff was very, very friendly and helpful. The TV reception was a little poor. The breakfast buffet was at best a good continental breakfast. It was to say the least not a buffet. If you need to stay in downtown Akron, I would recomend this place as it is located close to everything.

Several restaurants right in Quaker Square. But they do close early. There are several other restaurants within 15 mins. drive time of the inn. Stay away from the Spaghetti Wharehouse restaurant. It was terrible!!!!!!!!
