Overall nice hotel

There wasn't anything too special about this hotel. The cute little shops that were attached to the hotel were closed for summer, so that was a little disappointing. Otherwise, the hotel itself was kind of cute and different from the norm. But the quality was just average.

Disappointing Stay

The hotel is now owned by the University of Akron who have not updated their website... the pool is n o longer open to the public and the mall shoppes are closed down early after the semesters are over. We didn't get to swim; the shops and the restaurant was closed so we had to go out and look for one. Although the hotel is an architectural marvel.. beware that concrete walls magnify street noise and the sounds of heaters and fans. Our room had water damaged wall paper and they must have recently moved the TV because the cables were just strung across the floor .. very easy to step on in the dark. We were very disappointed o verall.

A Must See Historical Building!

We stayed here for the easy access to Akron Children's Hospital, and down town Akron. The hotel is a one of a kind place! The rooms are round because they are old grain silos , and they are also well furnished, it takes a few minutes to soak it all in that you are actually standing in the old Quaker Oats Factory. The food here is absolutely wonderful! A hot complementary breakfast is included, and there are 3 places to chose from for lunch & dinner that are attached to the hotel. Our son was very excited about the Trackside Grille, because you can actually eat in a train car, the food is great, really affordable and well portioned for the price. There is a downside to the Quaker Square Inn, the Hotel pool has been drained and therefore no one can enjoy it.

Time-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

If you're going to Akron Children's Hospital, use Bowery St., it takes you there in about 5- 10 minutes depending on traffic. ALWAYS use the Bowery St. parking Garage, you can get your parking fees waived sometimes, you'll have to ask the Hospital staff about Free Parking.

Quaker was quiet!

I had an amazing king-size suite for a great price and the staff even honored my AARP card for an additional discount. The room was spacious, quiet and even the bed was surprisingly comfortable. Great location - easy walk to the University of Akron.

A very historic place

I stayed in this hotel because of its historic history. The rooms are a bit dated but acceptable. There is no indoor pool it is closed, the hotel will give you a pass to use a nearby facility. It was very quite, but only the first three floors are for hotel use and the higher floors are for student housing for the univerity of akron. I beleive there were few students during my stay because of Spring Break so the time i was there is was very quiet and not very populated.

Not quite there

I love the creative re-purposing of the Quaker Oats factory as a hotel. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and many even have a little balcony carved out of the original silo. However, the service and amenities need work, and this was in the summer without the crush of university business. I walked in at 3:05 on a Saturday to find one other guest at the desk and three employees behind the desk. And I stood in line waiting. Only when another party of 6 showed up behind me did one of the employees decide to engage me and get the line moving. I then came to realize that the staff had no idea which rooms were cleaned (at 3:05!) and had to send someone upstairs to scout out the situation while I sat in the lobby waiting. The lobby is quite attractive, but I imagine concrete silos don't "breathe" well. For that or some other reason, humidity seems to be a problem and large fans were blowing most of the time. This worked sufficiently in the lobby, but the exercise room is in the basement and was damp and smelly. The Sunday breakfast buffet was bland and unexciting, with watery scrambled eggs, meats, oatmeal, and a few bread and pastry choices. And there was nobody in sight to tend to things or clean tables when others left. Akron seems to have few hotels downtown, so I appreciated the location and would recommend the place largely for that reason. But the Quaker Square inn had the pool closed with no notice, I had to insert the key card 4-5 times each time I wanted to open my door, and the staff seemed generally disinterested. It seems it could be much better with a little effort.

Creepy

I was curious to stay at this renovated hotel (sleeping in an old silo seemed pretty cool!) though found it to be eerily dark and quiet. Maybe because it was a weekday..? None the less, the advertised pool was inaccessible, the carpet had several stains and the restaurant closes at 9pm. Other than location, there's not much going for this hotel, especially at $100/night.
