Would not stay again...
First its a simple motel that has no real amenities other than the Continental breakfast. The hotel does not extend the same offer to orbiz customers as private booking customers even though the room rate is the same...The spa is a separate for the motel not part of the motel. I would stay again for that rate and the cleanliness of the staff and general areas are lacking. Super 8 motels are much better at a lesser rate

SUB-STANDARD ROOM
The room was sub-standard - small, dark and dank. It was on the back side of the building and had a very musty smell. The decor was depressing, although the bathroom had been updated. I was unable to stay there and checked out as soon as I found better accommodations in town. The Crystal Spa on site was actually very nice and I would recommend it for its excellent services.

Grand Union Motel was a union of "Grand" and "Motel"
The room I got at the Grand Union Motel in Saratoga Springs was comfortably cozy, which is to say, not spacious but okay for my needs as a traveling performer. The bathroom had some minor cleanliness issues but I've seen worse in my years as a road comic. The place is up the road from the town's main drag, just far enough, though, that I didn't feel comfortable walking it. The mineral spring baths are a very cool plus for the place and that makes up for a good deal of the moteliness about it. There was actually a lot more moteliness than there was grandness. As far as value goes, you get what you pay for and at the price, I was not at all dissatisfied.

Smells like wet dog
Tis was a very depressing motel. The room smelled like wet dog, and we had to go out and get some febreze to make it bearable. The room was cramped and dark, and all the guests seemed to sit outside in the plastic chairs just so they didn't have to be in the rooms. I was very uncomfortable. The sheets were scratchy and felt nasty, and the bathroom was disgusting. All in all the stay made our trip very depressing and uncomfortable. I would not recommend it. On the plus side the clerk was personable and sweet, altho the manager seemed overbearing and kind of scary. Think twice. I have stayed at other hotels in the area and was very happy. Not this time. AND it was very expensive for what you got. A definite NO.

Grand Union Hotel
An older hotel that was clean, and had good wi-fi. A/C was not turned on in the room when I arrived, and never did want to work correctly. Maintenance man arrived promptly, and fooled with A/C, but it never worked as it should. It was close to 90 outside, so this made room uncomfortable. Free breakfast buffet was OK

Stupendous to say the least
Enjoyable on every level. Low prices really sucked me in to begin with, but in all honesty a relaxing spot is the way to go to calm the nerves from work. Excellent location.

Nice little place
This is an old-fashioned drive-up motel. No, it isn't the Hilton, but it is a clean, comfortable place at a reasonable price. We found a lamp without a lightbulb. It was replaced quckily and cheerfully. Some friends stopped by to change clothes on the way to a reception. They commented favorably about the room as well.

Simple Accomodations, Wonderful Setting
I have stayed in Saratoga many times, usually choosing a higher end hotel. My primary reason for choosing to stay here was to be close to the Crystal Spa. I was also looking for accommodations close to SPAC (within walking distance), and to indulge in something I had been told would be memorable. I guess I can't expect much in terms of the accommodations, what with it being a motel. However, given it's history, as a place to stay for decades; I was disappointed with the bed. Hard as a rock, lumpy, linens were 100 count at best... And the shower drain backed up. I don't know if I'd stay here again; the courtyard is wonderful; despite being on broadway, you're set back enough to truly find a quiet space, to sit and listen to nature. Worth it if you're paying 100 a night; any more and it's highway robbery... I believe their rates shoot up during racing season.

Sightseeing tip:
Long walk from hotel
Take Ave. Of the Pines, straight to SPAC. A lengthy walk, but good exercise, and a relatively peaceful walking experience; lots of bikes and joggers.
