For over 75 years The Hotel Saranac has been extending genuine Adirondack hospitality and is ... a great hotel... the ambiance is wonderful and the place could not be more comfortable; praises Frommers New York Travel Guide. Located in the back yard of the Adirondacks just minutes away from down town Lake Placid and a short drive from historic Plattsburgh; The Hotel Saranac is perfect for exploring the Adirondack region. Saranac Lake was ranked Number One Small Town in New York and 11th best small town in the US-Norm Cramptons 100 Best Small Towns in America. The hotel is convenient to shopping; arts; and many four season sports venues and outdoor activities. Opened in 1927 the Hotel was built with all the comforts and amenities of a modern metropolitan hotel in the serenity and seclusion of the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. It was built as the only fire proof hotel in Upstate New York. Recalling a style and glamour of another era the stunning Grand Hall and Ballroom on the second floor epitomizes grace and warmth familiar to many of the great Adirondack camps. Named after the founder Apollo Smiths wife the Lydias Grand Hall features original woodwork and painting on its ceiling modeled after the Grand Salon of the Davanzati Palace in Florence; Italy. Relax in one of our 82 quaint and beautifully decorated rooms all equipped with wireless internet access and celebrate the oldest and longest running Winter Carnival in the country or experience any number of competitive events such as Iron Man; the Lake Placid Horse Show and the Olympic Qualifiers. Recently new Jacuzzi Suites have been added to provide luxurious comfort to our guests. At the end of the day have a quiet meal in one of our two restaurants or browse the largest gift shop in the Adirondacks. The Hotel Saranac has something for everyone.

Convenient location for the best getaway

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Saranac for the long week-end de la Fete de la Reine. The hotel is located in a perfect spot for us avid cyclists that want to cycle different loops during our stay. The bed was ssoooooooo comfortable. Thank you for making our stay a real pleasure.

There is a super Italian restaurant in front of the Lac where we had supper the three nights we stayed in Lake Placid. Jacob, the owner, made us feel very special and event had us taste special wines for a cheap price.

Real Bad

First room had no heat at all was offered a electric space heater from behind the clerks desk that haad coffee spilled all over it. Was moved to second room which had luke warm heat only. The room temp after waking me up at 2am was 57 Degrees. No one at desk to ask for help. There was hair in the bed and matted on the pilows. The rooms wall paint was pealing off, not that clean. Thank god it was only for one night !!

Frozen

Nice hotel if it had heat we had to move to another room for heat but when we got there they just turned the heat on in that room. The clerk sent use to another smoking room but the owner changed it before we got that room. All she said was sorry. You might want to take this hotel off your list Dave

Historic Hotel Saranac

We enjoyed a comfortable, 3-day stay at the Hotel Saranac while visiting family. The hotel was built in the 1920's, so it is not the spotless, modern type of setting that many are used to. But we found the staff to be friendly & helpful, the room was clean, and the location in downtown Saranac Lake to be very convenient. We will probably stay there again next year at the holidays.

Avoid it

From check in on this hotel was awful, and experienced by several people. They check into dirty rooms, rooms that even when "cleaned" still isn't what I call clean. Not a hotel I will return to.

Don't Bother Staying Here

If you stay here, you're sure to be disappointed. It used to be GREAT when it was owned by the local college, but it has gone way down hill since the new owners took over several years ago. The restaurant and separate bar that used to be the best in Saranac Lake, have been closed for years. Stay somewhere else.

Quick Trip Through

Was less than inspiring. We were looking experience the Adirondacks in style and we seriously disappointed. Our reservation wasn't there, the room was un-clean, shower has a used soap bar in it, no toilet paper, sheets where stained and bed was not made. We asked the front desk agent to have the maid remake our bed with fresh sheets, and were told she had gone home for the day. We luckily had been camping and brought in our own sleeping bags and pillows, which we used. terrible experience.
