Weekend playing tourist

The hotel is in a great location. Easy to get around to everything. The rooms reminded me of the inside of cabin rooms on a cruise -- quite tight. The staff were helpful and even got us checked in early which worked out for us. Used the concierge to book tickets and tours which was quite convenient and saved time. Overall the hotel is a bit dated but is a good value for NY with great convenience.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Take the Big Bus Double Decker tour as it has a stop right outside the hotel which works great for getting around town. Additionally, there are a good number of restaurants one block north of the hotel which were quite good not to mention less crowded if that is what you like.

Superb location!

The location of the hotel could not be any better, particularly if you're flying in from Newark. Penn Station is literally across the road and you can see Macey's and the Empire State building when you look down the other way. The hotel is superb - proper New York-style hotel. The rooms are well laid out with plenty of room and with amazing views of the city. Staff were friendly and efficient. Shame they have to charge for baggage storage at 2 dollars a bag as most hotels would offer this free.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Loads of great restaurants a short stroll away and Starbucks just across the road for the essential morning caffeine fix. If you're after something a bit fun either for breakfast, lunch or dinner definitely try the Tick Tock cafe next door to the hotel. Really fun diner with a great menu of good home-cooked fare which will leave you a fair few spare dollars to spend in 5th Avenue.

Great location

We stay here each time we go to New York some of the rooms can be small but you get what you pay for. The staff could not be more helpful and the rooms are cleaned to perfection daily. One thing to be wary of is the hotel diner, it's pricey and food is nothing special eat out!

Location, location, location....

This hotel is a perfect location to do anything in NYC. The best part was access to the Subway as well as walking proximity to many of the touristy things in NYC. The room was small, but I figured in NYC for the price I paid it was "average". The staff was very friendly and courteous and helped us out when we didn't know which way to go. It would have easily been 5 stars if they didn't nickel and dime you in the business center and offered at least one free breakfast in the diner downstairs. I was also told that we were going to get a room with a "view" which I assume in NYC a "view" consists of an office building next door. The location of this hotel and overall feel of the hotel was great, and I will definitely consider staying here again.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

I would look at getting a Metrocard for your stay when you come here. The Subway is right downstairs and Penn Station is just a short walk away. Saves you on cab fair even though the speed to which you would get to your destination may be a little longer than it would take in a cab, careful planning and the use of the HopStop App helped.

Good location, needs bathroom remodel

Good location. Clean room. Helpful staff. Everything was great, but the bathroom! Needs some plumbing work and some counter space. You were either burned in the shower or froze to death. Employees smoked in the stairwells at times. Didn't filter in to rooms but could smell it in the hallway.

Just what it says!

We arrived, everything went smoothly any questions were answered the staff were polite and helpful. It all comes down to what you expect, we wanted somewhere central, clean, comfortable and welcoming and that's what we got, compared to the Pensilvania its a palace, the Waldorf it's not, but it's worth every penny.
