Built in 1930 by architectural firm Sugarman and Berger, the Wyndham New Yorker Hotel boasts an iconic Art Deco facade. As you look up the 43rd level, you will notice the signature New Yorker sign that lights up with a distinct red glow at night. The interior of the hotel still retains the original Art Deco glory that's highlighted by wrought iron barriers, marble floors, gilded door frames and extruded ceilings. The lobby's decor revives the vibe of the Jazz Age that boomed when the New Yorker Hotel first opened its doors. Boxing champion Muhammad Ali and U.S. president John F. Kennedy, top the long list of prominent guests who've enjoyed this hotel's hospitality.

Highlights

Located in the Garment District of Midtown Manhattan, the Wyndham New Yorker Hotel is neighbored by Madison Square Garden and the Empire State Building. Served by NYC subway and commuter trains, New York Penn Station is literally just outside the hotel's entrance.

Thanks to the Tick Tock Diner and Cooper's Tavern, you don't have to leave the Wyndham New Yorker Hotel to enjoy some appetizing American cuisine. Whether you need to buy some NYC souvenirs or a cup of fresh coffee in the morning, you can find essentials at the hotel's lobby. Additionally, the fitness center and business center at the Wyndham New Yorker Hotel are open 24 hours a day.

NOTE: The hotel charges a facility fee of $27.22 USD per accommodation per night. This fee is inclusive of: Premium high-speed in-room Internet access, long distance and international in-room calling, business centre access and fitness centre access.

GOOD PLACE TO STAY IN NYC

I've stayed at the New Yorker about 5 or 6 different times and have never had a bad experience. You can't beat the location for the price.

Awesome accommodations!

I stary at the New Yorker every trip to NYC. I have a business in the area and the hotel AND STAFF are very helpful, accommodating, professional with a personal, pleasant touch! This isn't easy to find but the New Yorker has it all. It's also surrounding by all the dining and shopping amenities I need - very convenient. Thanks, New Yorker & Staff Gwen C.

great rooms but some parts remain unrenovated...

The rooms are great and nicely renovated, my only complaint would be the lack of places to plug in. No real plugs by the bed (had to pull the bed out and plug my phone into an old white octopus with tons of lights already plugged in. The desk didn't have any outlets either. The lobby was beautiful and the staff was great. The halls to the rooms didn't seem to be updated and had an old smell to them. The neighborhood is a little fringy if you are concerned by that. Nothing scary, just lots of homeless people at night. Nobody bothers you much though. For the price it was a great deal and very close to a lot of great neighborhoods.

Small Room, Nice Staff

The staff was top notch. Very cheerful and helpful. Updated rooms are nicely appointed, but quite cramped even by NYC standards.

good location

Hotel is close to lots of food and penn station. Can even walk to times square from here. Staff is friendly but hard to get someone to answer the phone at the front desk. The place is big and clean. Security at night is pretty good. You need to show your room key to get upstairs after 10pm.

Great location, needs an update

It's hard to beat Wyndham New Yorker's location, especially if you're taking the train into Penn Station. Just a block from Penn Station, a few minutes walk to the Javits Convention Center, and an easy stroll to Times Square and the Theater District, you'll have your pick of where to go. Not all of the hotel's floors have been updated since Wyndham aquired the building and it shows. My bathroom was terribly out of date, lacking even counter tops to set a cosmetics bag on. My room was small, but that's standard for New York and didn't really bother me. Staff was all friendly and courteous and the lobby is a gorgeous art deco design.

While visitors may be attracted to Times Square, head the other direction to Chelsea and The High Line for a beautiful, different perspective of New York.

Grand NYC Dame

This is a great old hotel in the perfect location. Very clean and comfortable. Very helpful staff. It's a city hotel with small rooms, so if you're looking for space, this isn't for you. But for a metro stay; especially for 1 person; it's PERFECT.

vintage hotel next to Penn Station

Proximity to Penn Station was why I selected this place, and also I have a soft spot for older hotels. The room was very small, OK for a single business traveller but would have been tight quarters for two. Last renovation must have been decades ago. Things like the capped old gas line under the sink indicate that the last renovation was also done on the cheap. And why would anyone put a shower head at 68" above the tub bottom? On the plus side, I was able to check in at 0930 so I could unpack my bags and set a comfortable temperature for the room. And on the way out of town it was very convenient to be able to pick up my bags and walk to the train. On the minus side, the next morning housekeeping helpfully reset the temperature to sweltering hot.
