Great Hotel!!
We stayed here for 3 nights and it was a real pleasure. Even though we weren't in the hotel loads when we were the staff were very friendly and helpful. Anything we needed they were happy to help with. The rooms were clean, modern and bigger than I expected. The bed was super comfy and massive!! I would definitely stay here again, it was a great base for an amazing trip! :-)

Needs some attention
Checked in and after buying food at the local store found out that the refrigerator wasn't working correctly. Contacted the front desk and asked them to fix, ended up throwing out the food, non-responsive, old hotel that needs upgrading, shower wouldn't drain

Quiet haven
This hotel had the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. There is little noise from the city, and the only noise issue we experienced was a little TV drifting in from other rooms - nothing to disturb. The staff were so helpful and friendly, on the front desk and in the housekeeping team.

charging card before you've even checked out
First off,I am very disappointed in the way they charge your card before you've even left the hotel, they charge 50.00 per day,so they've basically held you're money, as early as the first 24 hours, 2nd they have no free internet 15.00 per day, 3rd no outlets in the bedrooms two outside of the bedroom and this is a suite mind you. Those outlets are not free so something will be unplugged ie lights! I tried too over look these flaws, but then I had to deal with Edwin, the front desk manager!! All I can say is he was argumentative, and incompetent.. there's a lot of hotels here. How this got 4 stars is beyond me.. please please do more research before staying here!!

Great location
Overall this hotel was above average. The staff was great and welcoming upon arriving. The furnishings in the room we a bit dated and worn. The built-in around the TV came off its tracks when I open it and the couch in the room has a "pleather" feel to it. The location is the best part in my eyes, just a short walk to Grand Central made my experience. Overall good, just needs to have a few touch ups here and there...

The Alex is a nice hotel
We enjoyed our stay at the Alex in NYC. It is just off of 3rd on 45th. There is a great diner for breakfast across the street and a mini market for items like water. The staff was great and well trained. Everyone acknowledges the guests whether janitor, maid, or manager. Check your bill when you leave to be sure you aren't charged for anything you didn't purchase from the mini bar. Could be unusual human error, but check to be sure. We will return to the Alex.

Highline Park, NYC --- a different point of view. Leads to Chelsea Market. Crowded on the weekends with people walking.

Good Location, needs amenities
Our room was spacious enough for 2 people. Fairly clean. Location of hotel was good, near all the places we wanted to visit and near Grand Central Station. Disappointed no coffee maker in room. No vending machine for ice on floor, had to request ice, got it once, second time we requested, the ice never arrived. Lobby staff were not very attentative or friendly when we first checked in, next day a little better reception. We had 3 large pieces of heavy luggage, no door man to help open door, or take up to our room.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Times Square has some interesting choices for dining. Try Dallas Bar-be-que, reasonable prices, good food.
