Henry Roger Wolcott hired John H. Duncan, the same designer who built Grant's Tomb, to build the Wolcott Hotel New York in 1904. The Erlich family purchased the hotel in 1975 and they have been dedicated to its meticulous restoration ever since. Adventurous travelers looking for a comfortable yet elegant home base while they tour New York City will find just what they're looking for at the Wolcott. Rich in history, the hotel is the place where, in 1907, Edith Wharton penned her novel, The Fruit of the Tree, while in residence. As time advanced, celebrities including Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers and Miles Davis also stayed at the Wolcott. French and Renaissance styles, along with ornate stonework, crystal chandeliers, and marble columns adorn the Wolcott.

Great for Price/Location

This was a a decent hotel. It was very affordable and close to everything in Midtown. You are a block behind the Empire State Building. The rooms were a little small. The staff was friendly. The hotel does have a vintage feel to it.

A pleasant experience

Although the hotel was very pleasant, clean and well positioned I found the facilities basic. I found it difficult to get used to the cardboard cups for coffee and eating breakfast in the lobby amongst the hustle and bustle of tourists coming and going. However I did enjoy my stay I particularly found the hotel very convenient for accessing the city.

Quirky but in a good way

Very comfortable and pleasant hotel. Beautiful building inside and out. Was given double room though travelling alone. Smoking room as requested. Lobby is magnificent, a pleasant change to usual bland modern hotel type. Room generously sized despite other comments. Noise not a problem heard nothing except sirens which are not rare in Manhattan! Room was cleaned spotlessly each day. Staff are all polite and pleasant. Actually I never encountered the notorious New York rudeness anywhere. Enjoyed my coffee and muffins in the morning. Would be nice if hotel supplied breakfast and had a bar. However I knew all that in advance, so can't complain. And I finally know what a muffin is! Hotel location could not be improved upon, most sights within walking distance and Empire State just around corner. Incidentally my favourite spot was the famous Flatiron building. Mesmerising! Hotel price remarkably reasonable by midtown Manhattan standards. I will stay here again and am happy to recommend hotel.

Midweek getaway

Location: Great location. Just 3 blocks from the Empire State Building. Convinient garage parking right infront of the hotel. Close to everything. Dunkin donuts at the corner. Room: spacious. Got three twin beds, i was looking forward to a king or queen since im by myself. The third bed is on a "separate" room. Like you have your own private oasis. It has its own tv. No view on both windows. Service: fast check-in. No drama when it come to check in time. Once theres a room available, you can get it. Breakfast available. Coffee and muffins. Good enough to start your day. Gym needs to be updated. Note: funny smell on the hallway.

Nice room good value.

One bedroom and one living room each quite small but together decent size. Old style bathroom and old bulky TV. In general great staff, good value and good location.
