Henry Roger Wolcott hired John H. Duncan, the same designer who built Grant's Tomb, to build the Wolcott Hotel New York in 1904. The Erlich family purchased the hotel in 1975 and they have been dedicated to its meticulous restoration ever since. Adventurous travelers looking for a comfortable yet elegant home base while they tour New York City will find just what they're looking for at the Wolcott. Rich in history, the hotel is the place where, in 1907, Edith Wharton penned her novel, The Fruit of the Tree, while in residence. As time advanced, celebrities including Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers and Miles Davis also stayed at the Wolcott. French and Renaissance styles, along with ornate stonework, crystal chandeliers, and marble columns adorn the Wolcott.

IDEAL LOCATION

This hotel is a no thrills/frills hotel but is ideally based for someone who does not want to spend too much time in a room. Right next to Broadway which leads to Time Square. Macy's is round the corner for those who like to shop. Empire State Building and Madison Sq Garden is also close by. We were not expecting breakfast but got Tea/Coffee and muffins every morning. Staff were polite and very helpful throught our stay. Hotel rooms are nice and clean with air con.

You do not need to eat in expensive restuarants. NY has plenty of Deli places and also food carts dotted everywhere that serve excellent food for a fraction of a price.

Great place for the price

It is a great place to stay considering the price. Our room was small but very tidy. It is pretty central and it is easy to reach various subway stations. Good location for tourists.

Wolcott Hotel is great

We arrived at the hotel and were immediately impressed with the decor. It is fabulous. Thenight staff greeted us enthusiastically. The rooms have twin beds, but for us, it was just right. The rooms are clean. The bathrooms are big and clean. The location is good - it is just 3 blocks from the Empire State Building and 1 long block and 4 or 5 short blocks to Macy's.. It would be good to know ahead of time where the restaurants are located, but we did find some good pizza places. And there is a Dunkin Doughnuts and Subway just across the street. There was coffee and muffins in the morning. I would stay here again. Note, if it rains, ask the staff to put a towel on the A/C unit outside the window to deaden the sound of water dripping. Again, good hotel, good price, good location.

Great Location, Great Price

After researching many different hotels online, I found the Wolcott Hotel to be the best fit with regard to price and location. I made reservations for a room with a queen-size bed, and I figured it would be a small and cramped room, considering it's NYC. Surprisingly, there was an actual living room, in addition to the bedroom. All together, there were two TVs, a desk, a sofa, two room air conditioners, and of course, the bed. The room was very clean and tidy. Additionally, the hotel provides muffins, tea, and coffee from 6:30-10:30 am, everyday. My only complaint has to do with the noise--from doors slamming in the middle of the night and the room air conditioners. The room air conditioners looked antiquated, and made a whole lot of noise without providing cool relief. Besides that, I would stay at the Wolcott again. It's reasonably priced, and the location is great...you can literally walk to the main attractions.

Wolcott Hotel

Hotel was in the perfect location for a first time visit. The hotel is aged but the room was a good size, clean and the bed very comfortable. Staff on the most part were helpful and friendly. Ice machine available to keep your drinks cool, morning muffin and coffee was delicious and there was no charge for leaving our baggage on the last day once we had checked out. Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again.

Not bad for the money

Small but nice ornate lobby, though the room felt like it was last updated in the 1940's. Still, it was clean, the bed was comfy and the price was right.

Can't beat the location!

You can't beat the location of this hotel--it's just around the corner from the Empire State Building, and it's within walking distance of Times Square. I found the location to be particularly convenient due to its proximity to so many subway stations. Can't beat it for the price. We've stayed at the Wolcott before, and we'll stay there again.

Ayza--a wine and chocolate bar--is right across the street from the hotel. It has fantastic food at a reasonable price. If you like beer, the Heartland is around the corner on 5th Ave. Great beer and good food.
