Henry Roger Wolcott hired John H. Duncan, the same designer who built Grant's Tomb, to build the Wolcott Hotel New York in 1904. The Erlich family purchased the hotel in 1975 and they have been dedicated to its meticulous restoration ever since. Adventurous travelers looking for a comfortable yet elegant home base while they tour New York City will find just what they're looking for at the Wolcott. Rich in history, the hotel is the place where, in 1907, Edith Wharton penned her novel, The Fruit of the Tree, while in residence. As time advanced, celebrities including Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers and Miles Davis also stayed at the Wolcott. French and Renaissance styles, along with ornate stonework, crystal chandeliers, and marble columns adorn the Wolcott.

Great spot to stay at in the city

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Wolcott. The hotel location is more than ideal, everything you need is within walking distance. The room was clean, not fancy but more than sufficient for our needs. We will stay there again and we both recommend it to anyone that is looking for a clean, affordable place to stay at in manhattan. Thanks guys!

gross

Cost over $200 for one night in a tiny, cockroach infested, poorly-lit, musty room with an uncomfortable bed and the charm of a turn-of-the-century haunted nursing home.

an oasis of calm and Olde worlde charm

From the first moment I walked in the door I felt comfortable. Fantastic foyer, friendly helpful staff and on site information desk where you can book discounted shows and various sightseeing options. The room was lovely;spacious, clean and homely. No fridge or coffee machine however. But that is minor. Complimentary muffins and coffee served in the morning. Location top notch, right on 5th Avenue and close to many attractions and subway. Would thoroughly recommend.

great historic hotel. awesome location and a great value.muffins are wonderful and free every morning. there is a hispanic front desk person I didn't get her name but she was a total smart mouth.. she had that typical ny attitude.. the concierge ladies were horrible.. bad attitude and more cconcerned with smoking than helping guest.. and when you do ask them a question, they act like it kills them to help you.. then they claim they don't know...worthless the wolcott needs to fire these idiots...room was nice and comfy.. lolockers in lobby to keep your bags when siteseeing after check out for only .50 per locker. beautuful decor in lobby. overall a very nice stay for the money

Great Location

Absolutely first class location for visiting the city - it is within walking distance of most central tourist sites and very near a subway if you want to go further afield. Rooms were clean and reception area great. The coffee and fresh muffins served every morning were wonderful. Would definitely recommend. Only disappointment was that there was no free wi-fi.

good hotel for a reasonable price

The best thing about this hotel is its location, next to the Empire State Building, a few blocks away from Madison Square Garden, a block away from 34th street with its shopping areas. Rooms on the lower floors (mine was on the third) which face internal square space inside the building are not very good: the air is too humid likely because of the huge ventilation machines on the roof of the ground floor. Air conditioning does not help as the air comes from the same space. So, try to take upper floor rooms facing the street. Coffee and muffins are provided in the morning.
