Proudly celebrating its 110th anniversary in March 2014, The Hotel Wolcott is located in the center of tourist New York; three blocks south of the Empire State Building on 31st Street between 5th Ave. & Broadway. Walkable to many attractions including the United Nations, Macy's, Chelsea, Circle Line Boat Cruise, Flatiron, Meatpacking and Highline neighborhoods, Broadway theater district, Times Square and all public transportation. The Wolcott has been offering clean comfortable modern accommodations in an old world atmosphere at reasonable prices since 1904. In fact the lobby and many of the guest rooms still retain their original architectural detailing. The Hotel has been written about in many domestic and international guides.

You get what you pay for

I think anybody who would voice criticism about this hotel would be sadly lacking. If you want five star standard, then be prepared to pay five star rates. The hotel claims to be a 2 to 3 star and that is the standard it has set. In fact, in my opinion it is a 4 star standard. The foyer is impressive with old fashioned carpet complimenting the magnificent ceiling. The bedroom is small, but adequate. The bathroom is small, but again adequate. The bath is for bathing, not luxuriating in, in other words it is too small to lie within. The room is not sparkling clean, but is certainly acceptably clean. Travelling on my own, I felt safe in the hotel and the surrounding area. In fact I walked from Grand Central to the hotel at 11pm. on a Friday night. The two lifts are located directly beside reception, which gave me the feeling that nobody would have access to the lifts without being noticed. This helped me to feel secure. There are muffins and coffee/tea served in the foyer in the morning, for which there is no charge, so I certainly hope that nobody would have the nerve to be critical about any aspect of this service. There are two lifts, both are small, there is no dining room, the bedroom and bathroom are not big, but if you choose to stay in an inexpensive hotel, then you get inexpensive standards. I have stayed in other hotels in New York, one being THE LONDON HOTEL. Superb hotel with superbly high rates. You get what you pay for, please remember that. All in all, the Wolcott was superb value for New York and I most definitely would recommend it to anybody that isn't picky and silly about where they stay..

Clean, Close to landmarks

It's not an extraordinary hotel, but who spends a lot of time in the hotel in the city that never sleeps? It's clean, quiet, comfortable, affordable.

Midweek getaway

Location: Great location. Just 3 blocks from the Empire State Building. Convinient garage parking right infront of the hotel. Close to everything. Dunkin donuts at the corner. Room: spacious. Got three twin beds, i was looking forward to a king or queen since im by myself. The third bed is on a "separate" room. Like you have your own private oasis. It has its own tv. No view on both windows. Service: fast check-in. No drama when it come to check in time. Once theres a room available, you can get it. Breakfast available. Coffee and muffins. Good enough to start your day. Gym needs to be updated. Note: funny smell on the hallway.

Value for money in comfortable classic surroundings

We found the hotel to be very central to all the sights yet far enough away from the loud noise from the streets. The room was very spacious with comfortable beds. The curtains and the bathroom could do with a facelift. The entrance and lobby is certainly very impressive. The complementary tea, coffee and muffins in the morning were an excellent start to the day to get us going with all the sightseeing. Rooms were so soundproofed there was no noise from other residents as there would be in modern hotels. Totally enjoyed our stay.

Girls 4 night break in NY

Good location to walk to most tourist places. Very nice muffins and coffee every morning. The room was very small and dated with old heating system which banged at night and got too hot. It couldn't be turned down so ended up sleeping with air con on in October! The staff at concierge desk were not at all friendly and would not put themselves out to give that extra piece of information. Would not choose this hotel again.

Nice room good value.

One bedroom and one living room each quite small but together decent size. Old style bathroom and old bulky TV. In general great staff, good value and good location.

Good hotel in perfect location

Wolcott has a beautiful lobby entrance which welcomes you. Staff are very helpful and always smiling. Rooms are a very good size for New York and the hotel is only a 10 minute walk from Macy's/Times Square etc. Very good value for money and would use again.

New York Trip

The front desk gentleman was less than friendly when we checked in and became surly with my husband from start to finish - we did not need this after a 5 hour flight. This is our 6th time staying at the hotel and have always had a good experience, but a few times it's been dicey with front desk personnel.
