Henry Roger Wolcott hired John H. Duncan, the same designer who built Grant's Tomb, to build the Wolcott Hotel New York in 1904. The Erlich family purchased the hotel in 1975 and they have been dedicated to its meticulous restoration ever since. Adventurous travelers looking for a comfortable yet elegant home base while they tour New York City will find just what they're looking for at the Wolcott. Rich in history, the hotel is the place where, in 1907, Edith Wharton penned her novel, The Fruit of the Tree, while in residence. As time advanced, celebrities including Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers and Miles Davis also stayed at the Wolcott. French and Renaissance styles, along with ornate stonework, crystal chandeliers, and marble columns adorn the Wolcott.

Good value

Rooms fine just very dark lighting. My room had a double room and a separate single room or lounge. Clean, facilities fine, good location for Penn train station and getting about. Muffins for breakfast a welcome touch. No free wifi.

Wolcott Hotel

Have always wanted to stay in an art deco- early 1940 hotel, and this fit the criteria. Lobby was ornate, great morning muffins ( free) and coffee. Concierge staff available 90% of the day, which was great. The rooms are small, but very clean. The bathrooms are nice size....Towels were fresh every day and the room was cleaned daily

Fabulous position

The location is excellent, within walking distance of most of the tourist spots and only one block from Empire State Building, so if you are in a room at the front of your hotel thats the view you get. Room was spacious by New York standards the only recommendation I would make to hotel is to have a choice of drinks at breakfast and also offer other snacks as a muffin is not to everyones taste. The staff were really helpful and courteous.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Book a meal at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square, the food is average but you are 48 floors up and the restaurant revolves so you get spectacular views especially at sunset, pricey but nice.

Wolcott Hotel

Hotel was in the perfect location for a first time visit. The hotel is aged but the room was a good size, clean and the bed very comfortable. Staff on the most part were helpful and friendly. Ice machine available to keep your drinks cool, morning muffin and coffee was delicious and there was no charge for leaving our baggage on the last day once we had checked out. Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again.

Great staff!!

The staff treated me very well and I enjoyed my stay there. It was only 3 blocks from the Empire State Building and Macy's and a short walk to Times Sq. or a $5.50 cab fare. The manager gave me excellent advice on how to get to Brooklyn which saved me a ton of money. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Very convenient for Time Square

Gorgeous reception, chandeliers and columns. Rooms spacious and very clean. Staff friendly, not gushing 10-15 mins walk to Time Square. Penn station 3 mins away Flatiron building literally at end of the road. Staff happy to book trips and arrange Airport return shuttle We really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast, not great but nevertheless a bonus. Would recommend and would return there
