You get what you pay for
I think anybody who would voice criticism about this hotel would be sadly lacking. If you want five star standard, then be prepared to pay five star rates. The hotel claims to be a 2 to 3 star and that is the standard it has set. In fact, in my opinion it is a 4 star standard. The foyer is impressive with old fashioned carpet complimenting the magnificent ceiling. The bedroom is small, but adequate. The bathroom is small, but again adequate. The bath is for bathing, not luxuriating in, in other words it is too small to lie within. The room is not sparkling clean, but is certainly acceptably clean. Travelling on my own, I felt safe in the hotel and the surrounding area. In fact I walked from Grand Central to the hotel at 11pm. on a Friday night. The two lifts are located directly beside reception, which gave me the feeling that nobody would have access to the lifts without being noticed. This helped me to feel secure. There are muffins and coffee/tea served in the foyer in the morning, for which there is no charge, so I certainly hope that nobody would have the nerve to be critical about any aspect of this service. There are two lifts, both are small, there is no dining room, the bedroom and bathroom are not big, but if you choose to stay in an inexpensive hotel, then you get inexpensive standards. I have stayed in other hotels in New York, one being THE LONDON HOTEL. Superb hotel with superbly high rates. You get what you pay for, please remember that. All in all, the Wolcott was superb value for New York and I most definitely would recommend it to anybody that isn't picky and silly about where they stay..

Excellent price for the location
Excellent price for the location of this hotel. They did advertise an "old world" style of accomodation and they weren't kidding tho. The place is a little bit in need of renovations. Bathroom was really tiny though but the 3 twin bed room we booked was quite large compared to their double rooms.

Comfortable, spacious room with
Comfortable, spacious room with modern facilities in a great location, just a block from the Empire State Building. The coffee and muffins for breakfast were a bonus. Some street noise in the early morning but, hey, this is New York. Had a great stay and would definitely stay again.

This was my second trip to NYC,
This was my second trip to NYC, this time for my honeymoon.. Last time I stayed in Times Square, other than times square as an attraction, there wasn't much else to do, this hotel instead was cheaper and in a prime location.. Close to Emipre State Buliding, Macy's, times square, fifth Ave shopping, it was the best, will defiently stay there again!!!

This hotel is very well located
This hotel is very well located and easily accessible. I do have a remark on the check-in: although I had made a reservation for a non-smoking room with twin beds, I was told that only a smoking room was availabe and when I told that I would not accept this, the man at the reception desk was very rude and unpleasant. He told me that I would have to wait for 30 minutes to get a non-smoking room. I informed him that this was no problem. But as I just put 50cts in the locker, I was told that the room was ready. I retrieved my luggage and went to the room. When about 5 minutes later my friend arrived and asked for me, she was told that the room was not ready and that I went for a walk. Good that I texted her that I was in the room so she could join me there. Apart from that I think that the hotel is really a good place to stay.

Perfecto
I was more than pleasantly surprised with our stay. We arrived early and needed to have our luggage held before check-in, which was not until 4:00 p.m. We were able to check-in when we arrived at 11:30 a.m. - this was a life saver for us as we all came from different areas. The staff was professional, jovial and courteous. There were muffins and coffee and tea available in the lobby in the mornings. The location is great - walking distance to many areas, near subway, and taxis easy to access. Room was very spacious, clean, comfortable, and just what we needed.
