Great Location and great price

Would recommend Sun, Jun 13, 2010
We visited New York for a girly weekend and this hotel is ideal for a base as it is just off 5th Avenue. Can't fault it really, there are more expensive hotels but we did'nt spend to much time in the room to much to see and do.

A bed to sleep

Would recommend Mon, May 31, 2010
This hotel must be seen just as a bed to sleep. The location is great. The Empire State is just 2 blocks away and you can walk to Times Square. The staff is unfriendly and bitter, I recommend avoiding them. Compared to other 3 stars hotel I have stayed, the hotel and the rooms have the same amenities and comfort but the staff is quite unfriendlier. Ah, they did have muffins for breakfast in the lobby, that was a plus.

Comfortable and a good value

Would recommend Sun, May 30, 2010
This hotel is a good value for the money. You get a clean, comfortable room. After having no luck booking a moderately-priced NYC hotel for 3 people at the last minute (most hotels only offered 1 queen bed), I booked a triple room at the Wolcott with 3 twin beds (which was like a mini-suite), which was surprisingly roomy, especially when compared to the standard 2 double rooms in most NYC hotels. We were able to check in early and they offer good sized lockers to store bags after you check out for only 50 cents. The bathroom was a little small, but adequate for our needs. Some of the windows did not lock, which may be a safety issue on the lower floors. The hotel offered muffins and coffee in the morning; we found the muffins dry. The hotel is only a few blocks from the subway, close to the Empire State Building, and one block from Korea Town. The hotel offered discounted parking (saving 50%) at the parking garage on the next block. While here, we visited Chinatown, Soho, Herald Square and saw a Broadway show. This is the second time I have stayed at the Wolcott. It's not a fancy hotel and it doesn't have things like an in-house restaurant or bar (although there are many restaurants and bars within walking distance), pool, or lounge. But, for the traveler looking for a moderately priced room not too far from the action, this hotel is a great find.

Ehhh... ok.

Served its purpose for traveling on a low budget with friends. More spacious than other hotels I've stayed in in NYC. Very old, kind of felt dirty/dingy but I do believe it was clean. The rooms were pretty terribly decorated and kind of creepy. We had a significant amount of luggage that we hoped to keep at the hotel while we walked around but they only had a small room with small lockers. Not only was our luggage too big for the lockers, but all the lockers were taken so we couldn't store our luggage and had to haul it around the city... AWFUL! overall, it served its purpose and was clean but i couldn't wait to get out of there.

Lobby and hallways recently redecorated, very nice. Room looks like it was redecorated maybe 10 years ago, some flaking plaster on the ceiling, wall coverings a bit worn. Bathroom bright and spotless. Still, excellent midtown location.

Great location but serious water problem

Would not recommend Mon, May 24, 2010
The water temperature in the shower is VERY dangerous as it goes from ice cold to scalding hot (without changing the setting) - hot enough to cause serious burns! The hot temperature could cause serious injury to someone unable to move out of the shower spray such as an elderly person or child. The hotel staff were less than receptive when we voiced our concerns. The bathroom sink is about the size of a sink in an airplane lavatory so it is very difficult to use without getting water everywhere. That said, this hotel is in a great location, it is clean and the beds were comfortable.

Attractions

A walking food tour of Greenwich village was a highlight and although it is a long walk from this hotel, we did it in about 30 minutes.

Great place for the price

Would recommend Thu, May 13, 2010
It is a great place to stay considering the price. Our room was small but very tidy. It is pretty central and it is easy to reach various subway stations. Good location for tourists.

Dining

Korea street (32nd street) with good asian restaurants is just around the corner.

"THE SHINING" IN REAL LIFE

Would not recommend Wed, May 12, 2010
My wife and I spent a night there after a concert in the city. Where do I begin? First, the guy at the reception desk was stoned-faced and kept minimum eye contact. Way to welcome your guests! The women were friendlier but seemed out of it. The room was cold, depressing with really thin blankets. In the early morn a weird noise emanating from somewhere woke us up along with the cold room temperature. The original molding on the ceiling was perhaps once beautiful but now it was covered with so many layers of paint that it looked like it was constructed by a mentally-challenged ape out of play-doh. The bathroom is big enough for two wheelchairs and there's a bench in the bathtub. My wife discovered that one of the wrapped soap was wet and used. The general vibe of this place is that of a retirement home. Definitely not recommended for anyone under 50.
