Radiating history from its walls, the Wellington Hotel New York?built in 1901?stands apart from the fast pace of modern city life surrounding it. The plush lobby is decked out in rich tones and intricate murals, while focal chandeliers give the interiors a classical ambience.  If you are here on business, the hotel?s central location and 24-hour business center will cater to your every need. Midtown Manhattan is full of excellent restaurants; gourmets would do well to try the Wellington?s delicious plates of Greek mezze at the Molyvos restaurant, or the Park Cafe's informal all-day dining options.

speak up about room size

At first they put us in a super tiny room. I would not have been able to exit the standard bed from my side of the room. It was up against the wall. Upon immediately seeing this; I told the bellboy this was unacceptable. He immediately called the front desk and had the room changed for us. The room was very nice and large. I was just wondering though if I hadnt said anything we would have ended up in that closet sized room. That makes me very uncomfortable.

somewhat dissapointed

The hotel is in a great location near the central park, theater district, and museums. The building is old, and staffs manners ranged from very pleasent to rude. The room could have been cleaner. The biggest problem for me was the noise. While I didn't hear any noise from other rooms, the old windows did not shield any noise from outside. The noise from traffic was pretty bad. There was some construction going on at night on the second day and I had trouble sleeping. Given that you are paying about half as much compared to people staying at hotels in the same block, you might be willing to live with some of the things. But, I do not recommend staying at this hotel if you are traveling for important business meetings or presentations (unless you can sleep through anything).

Perfect Location!

My stay at the Wellington was great. At 55th and 7th... it's located only a few blocks from everything! Central Park is only 2 or 3 blocks to the North, with a great little Greek food vendor on the way, perfect for a lunch in the park! Time Square is right down the street, with Theaters just within 5 minutes walk! The Carnagie Deli is across the street with the most gigantic pastrami sandwiches you can imagine! There's the NRQW Subway right outside the 7th Street exit that'll take you anywhere Uptown or Downtown you could care to go! 5th Avenue is a short walk away, so you can shop til you drop or for a quieter jaunt, slip into Joseph Patelson Music House, a great little music store on 56th street! The rooms are small, but comfortable. Considering what little time is spent in the room...it's perfect. Complete with a closet, an ironing board, iron and hairdryer...has pretty much what I needed!! The staff is friendly and very helpful. I highly recommend the Wellington to New York City travellers.

Close to everything!

The Wellington was comfortable and perfectly located. The rooms are quite small, but clean. The bathroom was also small, but seemed updated recently. The room decor was simple, but nice...Pretty curtains, comforter, and wall treatment. (However, there was not one picture hanging on any wall.) The lobby was very pretty, and the staff was courteous. When you step out the front door, you can look to your right and see Central Park down the street. To your left is Broadway and all the theaters. Fifth Avenue is an easy stroll a few blocks away. (We walked it easily.) Times Square is close enough to walk to. (We were out walking and came to it by accident, maybe 8 or 10 blocks away.) The hotel cafe has good food for a quick meal, and the well known Carnegie Deli is across the street. (Great blintzes for breakfast, and mile-hi pastrami sandwiches for lunch!) Many more restaurants close to the hotel. The subway entrance is attached to the side of the hotel, so we were able to go anywhere conveniently...and return right to our hotel side door! We recommend the hop-on,hop-off bus tours. One of the bus stops is across the street from the hotel. We didn't hop off, and saw so much of New York City that we wouldn't have had time to see. The tour guides were fantastic, giving history and info about all the sights. We recommend a 2 day pass to take all the loops of the tours and still have time to visit a few places each day.

My review of Wellington Hotel

I realize that the hotel is one of the older ones and I appreciate older buildings but it could use some renovations. I did notice that the bathrooms were redone as well as the windows. There was a stove top unit there but there were no utensils to cook with also the refrigerator's freezer section was iced over. It was convient for the purpose of our trip since we were there to catch a performance at Carnegie Hall. It was also far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Time Square.

Great location and great staff.

Great staff! A bit busy at check-in, but the Bell staff were quite the treat in NYC - personable and helpful. Location is great and 2 restaurants in the building make for easy dining if you are too tired to go out! We asked and received an upgrade from a room with a double bed to a suite with 2 doubles and a kitchenette just for the asking.
