A Home Away from Home

This is our fourth time to stay at the Wellington. That says a great deal about how comfortable and at home we feel there, especially because of the staff, who are so friendly as to seem like family -- and they did the first time there as well as the fourth. The location of the hotel is wonderful. It is close to many restaurants in every price range imaginable. It is within walking distance of the theater district and shopping. There is a subway station practically in the lobby. And don't pass up The Park Cafe!

Carve: Wonderful pizza; great, friendly staff at 47th Street and 8th Avenue. You can get a HUGE slice of pizza and a drink for under $10. When you finish eating, walk up a block and visit Scent-a-late, a great litle shop with unique merchandise. It is on 48th Street just a few doors west of 8th Avenue.

Great location

Can't beat location for touring NY. Lobby is nice. Old school feel with bellman and safes behind the reception desk. Rooms themselves are in need of a lot of work. Very worn carpet, old fixtures, paint needs to be touched up everywhere. Staff was nice, owners should show some support and start rehabbing this place.

Great bang for your bucks

I liked the Wellington and would stay there again. Friendly and reliable staff. Great location. Only negative is there is no gym. But no problem because I got plenty of exercise walking around Manhattan.

Perfect Location, wonderful staff

I booked this hotel last minute because the price was great. The location of the Wellington is awesome, near Central Park and Times Square. We arrived at the hotel well before check in. We were able to check in although our room wasn't ready. Our awesome bell hop, Mike, took us to our room and put our luggage in the closet! We spent 4 hours out and about. When we came back to the hotel, our room was ready. We stayed in room 1010 which was newly renovated. Our room had 2 beds, tv, refrigerator, sink and microwave. It also had a small round table with two chairs. There was plenty of dresser drawers and closet space. Our view was of an alley, but that was not a big deal. The city was warm during December and our room was very stuffy. We called downstairs and asked if they could turn the heat off. 10 minutes later someone came up and told us the heat was off. We opened the windows and the room was comfortable. We also had to call down twice for extra towels and both times we received them within 15 minutes. For the amount of time we spent in our room, it was perfect. I cannot say enough about the friendliness and accommodating staff.

so-so hotel

Location is great, staff was very nice and the room size was fine.No extra's with this hotel, they charge for everything even to print a page of paper. Bathroom had mold in shower and the a/c didn't work after the first day but the bed was very comfortable and we received a free upgrade on bed size.

great for the money

Very friendly and helpful staff - wonderful location. The room was roomy and clean - very comfortable beds. The price was very reasonable in comparison to everything else in NY. I would stay again and recommend it to anyone. Can't wait to go back.

Good Value for a Short Stay

I was in NYC for a single night. Needed a place to stay so I would be in town for an early morning meeting. This hotel was perfect. It was literally one block from my meeting location (whose rooms were twice as expensive). It had everything I needed to be comfortable. While it was fine for a one-night stay, the room was very small and the bathroom was tiny. It would be hard for more than one person to spend more than a couple of nights in this room. I had asked for a smoking room and did not get one. But the bellman told me the smoking rooms had not yet been renovated so I elected to stay on the non-smoking room. Red Eye Grill almost across the street is a great restaurant. Overall, a good value for the money.

Good value, great location

The only negative aspect of our stay was the noise from the pipes when they were heating up - at intervals from 2.00am to 8.00am. The noise was often very loud and impossible to sleep through. I'm not sure if this was a complaint throughout the hotel, or just some rooms.

40th surprise birthday trip.

The Wellington Hotel is 3mins walk from Central Park and 15mins from the heart of Time Square, so ideally placed for relaxing, shopping and all the things New York and Manhattan has to offer. Staff are very helpful and the rooms are clean and adequate. All in all a great place to stay.....I would recommend it and go back.

lots of places to eat at very expensive. i would suggest some of the deli which have everything from water to diner foods for less than the restaurants if you are staying several days would cut down on cost and help the small business.
