Overall Excellent Experience

This is by far my best experience at an NYC hotel. The location was excelent. The food was good. The room was very clean. My only complaint was we were on the second floor and were able to hear the street noise at night. Luckily we turned on the window A/C and drowned it out.

friendly oasis

Everything you want in a hotel for a true NYC experience. Great location, clean, historic, and not too expensive. Plenty of reasonably price restaurants nearby and so is the subway. One con however, the sounds of the street do come through to the room.

I just paid top dollar for this hotel?

As I was checking in a gentleman walked up and asked what a single night rate was...the clerk told him the range of rates. I glanced down at my prepayment and realized that I had paid the top rate that the hotel charges. The hotel had a comfortable bed, poor working area (narrow granite "desk" that was more like a makeup area) twin neon lights which were terrible and bright ....and no heat! The only positive was the shower which was had great flow and plenty of hot water (thank heaven because the room was freezing).

Great Location!

Staff were great - very friendly and helpful. The room was simple but adequate. Breakfast was also simple but adequate. The location was the best part of the deal. Though it's in an active neighborhood with a lot of nightlife, the hotel is just off the beat and so it's very quiet and restful. I would definitely recommend.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

Hotel is on the corner of Waverly and McDougal. McDougal has a very active night life - but 2 blocks away so you're not tripping over drunks. Close to several subway lines. Washington square is a GREAT park.

Small but sweet

One of the few hotels in the Greenwich Village area, this hotel has a great location. The room was small, but with nice linens and a clean and bright bathroom. We had an interior facing room, so we didn't open the shade, but there was a nice breeze with the window open and it wasn't too noisy even though we were on the second floor. The hallways are narrow with lots of twists and turns, but I guess that's part of the charm if you like old hotels. Nice bar, with a great dessert menu and very friendly staff.

Intimate, little art deco masterpiece

I was in New York for only a day to go to an awards ceremony. This hotel was the perfect choice. It was close to the venue, small and intimate, and the staff was excellent. It really beats the impersonal, corporate atmosphere of the larger chain hotels. The room was rather small, but being solo on this trip I did not need a large, expansive room. My only complaint was that I had such a short stay there!

Right location, great staff

I booked this hotel due to its proximity to a conference I was attending in the village. It borders Washington Square and all of the nightlife, dining and NYU are only a short block away. Close to public transportation as well. It is a quiet hotel, the staff was exceptionally helpful, friendly and competent. Breakfast was very nice, served to the table and just right. The room was very clean, tiny, but comfortable. The hallway was a bit dingy though well-lit, dirty carpets but upkeep on carpets tracked on by NYC winters simply cannot be kept immaculately clean. I was a woman travelling alone and felt entirely safe and comfortable in this hotel. I would book it again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a basic hotel with friendly staff and a great location.
