I wanted to choose an outstanding hotel in order to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. It was a surprise trip to NYC and I ... wanted to make it special. The Waldorf=Astoria in and of itself is spectacular; a trip back in time. The art deco building and interior made it feel as if you were truly back in the 30s. The staff were exceptional as far as service was concerned. Be prepared to spend money as the hotel restaurants are not inexpensive. That said, the food, service and atmosphere were terrific. The entire staff seemed so helpful--from the doorman confirming the side of the hotel our shuttle was arriving to the travel desk where she made sure we had some literature on the hotel for our own "walking tour". In addition to the hotel stay, we say a terrific Broadway show, "Jersey Boys", celebrated at an outstanding Italian restaurant, Scalini Fedeli, and had a wonderful time!

I have regularly come to NYC, three to four times a year for many years. I have stayed at the Waldorf on several occasions. I ... was disappointed this time in the room quality. There was much paint flaking off the baseboards and mildew/stain on one wall. Also, the HVAC system did not adequately cool the room until late in the evening when the outside temperature dropped. Finally what might appear trivial? The hotel catered a private party in the front lobby Saturday night and diverted all the hotel guests through the basement and it's side doors. At $500+ per night. We should not have been treated second or third class at what purports to be a first class hotel. After this visit, I will seriously consider not staying at the Waldorf again. I have stayed at the Marquis, the Warwick, the Ritz-Carleton,the Plaza and the Sherry Netherland. Each hotel has it's own unique charm. The Waldorf is a shadow of it's former past. Don't stay unless you wish to pay $$$$ for something less than first class accomodations.

Buy your theater tickets directly from the theater box office. You will pay no extra fees (ie.TicketMaster, concierge fees, etc.) and more importantly you can see the seating charts and what is currently available. Buying the discounted tickets in the Time Square booths is fine if you are looking for upper balcony or just cheap and less desirable seats. Go to the box office for the good seats.

World famous Waldorf has lots of interesting history. The lobby and people working there are very nice but this is an old ... hotel. My room was not as good as even a Holiday Inn. The bathroom door didn't close, if you use the iron with the tv on the breaker blows, wall mounted heater/ac unit is noisy and doesn't really do anything, heater in bathroom didn't work, slow drain in the bath tub - should i go on? I'm sure it was the cat's meow a hundred years ago but next time i'll stay someplace more modern.

I took my son and his girl friend to NY for his college graduation present. We could not have asked for a finer headquarters. ... The staff was helpful, friendly, courteous, polite. The rooms were wonderful with luxurious linens, comfortable pillows, exquisite bath products. The turn down service and the daily freshen up was especially nice.

The subway system makes visiting any area of NY a pracitical experience. We visited Lower East Side and Brooklyn, both areas suited for my Bohemian son and his girlfriend. We could be in luxury one minute at the Waldorf, at a play on Broadway the next, and in Lower East Side the next.

Love2Travel Oct 16, 2009
Ours was a group of four women and we had a great time. The room was large enough to accommodate four of us without feeling ... too crowded. We have visited New York before, but not at the Waldorf. The hotel was lovely and in a wonderful location, though quite a walk from Times Square, where we ended up just about every evening. When we go back, we may opt to be closer to that area. On the flip-side of that comment, though, we were halfway between Times Square and Central park - and we loved Central Park. We hiked all through there and enjoyed walking along Central Park Avenue. Beautiful!

Lived up to its luxury status. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We got in early and they allowed us into an available ... upgraded room. Robes were luxe! Beds were incredible. View not so good, but they made mention of it at the desk, so it was no surprise. Very clean. Drapes need some attention, tassles were torn off or tattered along the edge. Overall satisfied and happy with my stay. It lived up to my expectations and has left me with great memories.

On check in we were given a room on 12th floor...very small and noisy..sounded like the people in the next room were in our ... room. We were upgraded to a wonderful room on the top floor with a great view(no view from the previous room). On our last evening there a giant roach ran out from somewhere and under the tv credenza and when it came back out we stunned it and my wife took it down to the receptiondesk...they were horrified and very apologetic and bottom line comped us a very nice dinner in the Bull and Bear Restaurant. People were extremely friendly and we were very pleased with the xperience except for the 2 glitches. On Board tour of NYC was great (6hours) very informative and fun...
