Quiet modern w/fantastic rooftop view
We stayed in a Superior King room on the backside of the 2nd floor, and it was amazingly quiet. Also it was stylish, clean and had a very comfortable bed. Even though the room was small we never felt too cramped because of a good use of space. The bathroom was very contemporary and also well laid out with a stone tile shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The European continental breakfast was very good and well stocked. One negative was that our toilet was broken when we first arrived, but a competent maintenance guy fixed it pretty quickly with no further problems. Another minor annoyance was the lack of an ice bucket/machine. The location in the Fashion District was good for getting around. Just a few minutes walk to Herald Square and a major subway station, or a short walk the other direction to 42nd Street and Times Square. So close to the Empire State Building that you are drawn to go up in it (which only took us about 10 minutes from lobby to observation deck - a new personal record). Speaking of the Empire State Building, the view from the rooftop lounge, Top of The Strand, is reason enough to stay here! It is an incredible panoramic unobstructed view that is almost mesmerizing, especially after a few glasses of wine. The lounge itself is intelligently laid out with lots of alcoves and spots for couples or small groups to sit together and chat and enjoy the fantastic view. A perfect way to end a day of touring the city and unwinding. I would definitely recommend The Strand.

The Strand Hotel
I had stayed at the Strand Hotel while I was visiting my son in NYC this weekend. I was very pleasantly surprised what a nice hotel it was. It is very modern hotel. The bed was a king size bed and very comfortable. The room was very clean, turn down service in the evening. I enjoyed the aminites in the bathroom, the shampoom, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. The only thing that was missing was a hair dryer. The breakfast in the morning was very good also. I would have loved it if it had oatmeal. The cold ceral was good but a hot bowl of oatmeal on a winter day is yummy.

Just back and loved The Strand
We made a point of letting the staff know that this was our 5th visit to NYC and this hotel was by far the best we stayed in, all members of staff we met were so nice, all very upbeat and friendly, nothing was a problem, we asked for a coffee maker which was sent up immedietly, often asked about taxis etc and advice was always good, they accomodated a late check out without a problem, room was spotless, bed was so comfy, bathroom was spotless which is a big factor for me in a hotel room. The hotel is on a side st which works because it is quiet at night and you will sleep without hearing all the honking and fire engines constantly which has happened to us in other hotels. Great location, turn right out of hotel and Herald Square & Macy's is 2-3 blocks up. Restaurant food & drinks were very nice if a little expensive but that would be my only gripe but there are lots of diners & delis found locally if trying to stick to a budget, Breakfast buffet was great to kick start the morning, roof top bar was great, hotel also held onto baggage foc which we have had to pay a ridiculous and unnecesary charge per bag in other NY hotels. I could keep going on about how nice the staff were, i'm a fairly relaxed kind of person and don't like too much fuss but at same time when you pay NY hotel prices you expect a certain standard and that excactly what you get here, an excellent standard in a relaxed & genuine friendly manner. If and when i do go back to NY i will book here again without hesitation

I felt stranded at "The Strand"
On a recent business trip to NY City, I stayed at the Strand in midtown. While the facility is new and was clean, the amenities left a lot to be desired. They do not have a restaurant, and offer a very limited continental breakfast in the AM. In addition, they have not quite figured out how to service their clientele with a wake up call, or housekeeping. The wake up call never did come, and I had to call to request my room be serviced. Helpful staff, gorgeous hotel
Warm, welcoming, knowledgeable staff. Brand new hotel so everything was fresh and very stylish. Ideal location within walking distance of shopping, bars, restaurants, etc. but on a side street that makes for a nice, peaceful hidden gem of a block - my friend was able to park right in front of the hotel on a Saturday. Very nice restaurant/bar in lobby and a fabulous rooftop bar. My only complaint was it closed at 1am. Definitely will stay here again!

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
Ginger man and the bar next door to it was very fun for the 20s, 30s set. Hop in a cab one night and go out in the lower east side (brunch at Sidwalk Cafe in Alphabet City is recommended too!) but you can always go back to the bars near the hotel - they are open until 4am.

Great Hotel
First class modern hotel in a good central location- Time Square:10 mins walk and nearest underground station:5 mins walk. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. Great rooftop bar. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel- it will certainly be top of our list when we next visit the city.
