The Roger Smith was a pleasant surprise.

We were delighted with our stay at The Roger Smith with a few exceptions. The rooftop bar was closed for some reason, as was the bar next to the lobby, and the elevators were too small to accommodate a wheelchair. Fortunately my friend was able to stand for the ride up to our floor, but it could have been very awkward to have to use the service elevator or something all the time. Otherwise, the staff were friendly and helpful, the bed was heavenly, and the bathroom was like out of a movie set. Quaint is a word that comes to mind here. I would stay here again.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There is a deli across the street and under the Manhattan Athletic Club that has a wide variety of food for reasonable prices. Their Rasberry Chocolate coffe is to die for.

Walking distance from Grand Central

I booked a room with two full beds and at first they put us in a room with only one bed so when we went back down to the lobby to remedy the situation, one of the employees started to give us attitude and was making it seem like we were just going to have to "deal with it." Then the other man, I think he was the manager, took care of the situation. Very nice man, he upgraded us to a jr. suite for no extra charge!! The only other thing worth noting is that the room was on the warm side. It did have air conditioning, but I was really hot and didn't sleep that well. It also was in the 90s outside so that might have something to do with it. Overall good stay, only a few blocks from grand central station.

Location, cleanliness, price!

Rented 2 rooms at an amazing price in February! Wish I could get the same again, as the rooms and location were very nice, and breakfast downstairs was great. Walked everywhere.

Centrally located classic hotel

Great location that was close to subway, times square and a lot of the tourist sights. Parking was around the corner as was some great places for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff was very helpful with great recommendations . A few Mac computers in the lobby were great for looking and researching last minute adventures...

Value

The hotel is nicely located in midtown with shops and store within a few blocks of the hotel. Service is. OK. The hotel building however is old but clean. Room still has the old TV which is OK but the chairs were dirty with stains.

Exellent place

Me and a friend stayed here over new years eve. The hotel was great, kinda old school yet very artistic. They had interesting paintings everywhere. I loved the character of the old building. The rooms were a solid price and very big by standards compared dollar per sq. foot. Location of the hotel is excellent too, only a few blocks away from Grand Central Station, and plenty of bars and restaurants very close by (including the one in the lobby). If you're a partier there is a liquor store across the street ( those are't too common in manhattan).

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

Short walk to the subway, take it down to Bleeker street to the Village. Super fun parties and bars down there. Saw some awesome comedians at some clubs and heard some sweet bands at the bars. Drinks/Food/Entertainment is 50% cheaper and more plentiful there than in Manhattan. It's a kind of long walk south down to the 23-30th street area, but its not that bad. Best way like I said above is Subway

Cold showers in otherwise lovely hotel

Finding a clean hotel in a great location of NYC is tough for 2, add on a 3rd and it's nearly impossible! It seems a king bed is the answer for 3 from most hotels. The Roger Smith was in a great spot with beautiful, artsy vibe. They also had 2 full size beds to accomodate us. We hit up a bunch of galleries in Chelsea, had drinks in midtown, and wrapped up the evening in the Russian Tea Room and a stroll by 30 Rock. Street noise was distracting, so bring some ear plugs if you sleep light. The night's rest was cozy, with rooms that feel like your sleeping in a wealthy grandmother's place. We were, however, bummed that the water was ice cold and impossible to shower in. The issue wasn't resolved until we checked out, and I feel the front desk should've appologized upon checkout.

The dessert and drink list of the hotel looked amazing, but they close at 1am. So get in there before your nightcap!
