Not putting on the "Ritz"

I have stayed in many hotels and enjoyed the view of the statue of liberty. I loved being near the park away from the hustle/bustle of time square. Hoetel was clean, staff very accomodating with the exception of the bar manager who closed the bar when it was full of customers at 11:30???? at 7.00 dollars a beer I would stay open. We asked to take beer to go...couldn't accomodate. Our room ammenties were NOT in working order. Our phone did not work, not enough towels ( 2 for 3 people)t.v remote control...not what I expected from a RITZ Carlton.

Poor value for Money

Began with poor and uncaring check-in and continued to deteriorate Not worth the money Despite the good location, you can end up looking at the pathetic battery tunnel Go somewhere else for less money!

Disappointed frequent Ritz patron

Whenever I travel, I lodge at the Ritz Carlton. This is due to the superb service and immaculate rooms. Unfortunately, this RC did not live up to these standards. The sheets were torn around the edges. The towels and rags had small holes in them. The carpet appears to be old and badly stained in many areas. Also, the mini bar was locked and I was unable to gain access. There was an awful, sour smell in the corridor. In contrast, the employees were so gracious and helpful. They continued to live up to the RC reputation. The employees and location are why I give this hotel 3 stars.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

Dine in Brooklyn as it is a short drive from the hotel and much cheaper than lower Manhattan.

business class hotel - not luxury

The hotel is great but I would say it caters mostly to business travel and is not overly luxurious. I was at the Chicago Ritz Carlton the following week which is much more luxurious. The lobby and bar are small and nondescript. The rooms are nice and large for New York. I like the location as it is close to multiple subway lines -- but if you are not comfortable taking the subway, it can be a long distance by cab to midtown.

Great Location if you like being way downtown

I like the Battery because you get a break from the hustle and bustle of midtown. I can take a run along the water, walk a few minutes up to Soho or the Village for dinner. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, especially when our room was not ready on time...I was a bit surprised about Sunday Brunch (took 10 or 15 minutes to get coffee even though they were not busy)...may have been understaffed that day but everyone was nice nonetheless.

disappointed on the hudson

had stayed here before in winter and had specifically chosen it for this stay in july because they had a lounge and outdoor terrace on the 14th floor. however when we got there we found out that the rise bar as it is called is no longer open. the hotel rooms are beautiful but it is a very long cab ride to most anywhere in the city.
