Chic decor, luxury amenities at this stylish hotel near Gramercy Park
This hotel is all about style. Its small size (just 135 rooms) and location in the Gramercy Park neighborhood make it feel more intimate and less touristy than a Midtown high-rise property. Modern furniture and animal print accents lend a hip vibe. Frette linens and marble bathrooms provide luxurious touches. A guest lounge offers free coffee and tea and computers for guests to use.
Highlights
  • Luxury linens and marble bathrooms
  • Guest lounge with seasonal outdoor terrace
Location

The neighborhood is known for its historic townhouses. Gramercy Park, however, is private, so only neighborhood residents have access. Union Square is a short walk from the hotel, and from there it's just a couple more blocks to the famous Strand Book Store. Greenwich Village, the East Village other exciting neighborhoods are an easy subway ride away.

Rooms

Rooms are chic and modern, with accents such as animal-print pillows, velvet drapes and leather headboards. Beds are dressed with Frette linens and down comforters. Marble bathrooms have bath products by Lather. Expect in-room amenities including iPod docking stations, bathrobes and slippers, 32-inch LCD TVs, Wi-Fi (fees apply) umbrellas and in-room safety deposit boxes.

Features
The 10th floor guest lounge offers free coffee and tea and computers for guests' use and has an outdoor terrace open seasonally.

Not the most bang for the buck

Cons: Dirty/stained shower tubs. Only standard cable TV available. Small and cramped rooms (though typical for most New York hotels). Not very soundproof. Window blinds are hard to use. Pros: Decent distance to Madison Square Park and Union Square. Excellent staff service; very helpful and friendly.

Good Manhattan Value

The room was small, but well set up. The guest lounge wifi didn't work and the complimentary cocktail hour never happened.

Small but nice

The rooms are small - As in one person needs to be on the bed in order for the other person to move around! The hotel is in a nice location, especially if you are OK with walking around. There are quite a few dining options nearby on 3rd Avenue. The room I had was quiet and isolated - very nice. My only concern was that the room was too hot, and I could not get the temperature down. I set the goal temperature at 65 F, but could not get the room below 75 F!

Great hotel, service, and price

I really liked the hotel. It was close to where I wanted to go, the room was clean and well stocked and it was priced just right. It isn't the Peninsula but for what I needed it was just right. The staff was excellent. Very friendly and accomodating.

Perfectly convenient

I travel to NYC quite often and usually with groups. Most often we stay at larger chain hotels which are fine for what we do but when I'm by myself I prefer the smaller boutique hotels. They offer more personal service and it seems like you're staying in your own apartment. Located in a quieter part of town, if there is such a thing, makes it seem more like your neighborhood. The rooms are small but you really don't need a big room because you're hardly ever there. Unless you plan on doing some entertaining, they are just enough. Clean and comfortable. My only thoughts on the negative side, if any, are that the elevators seem to have a mind of their own and sometimes go right past your floor while waiting.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

There are more than enough markets and restaurants in the immediate area and all the subways are within easy walk so you can get anywhere.

Unobtrusive, small, quiet hotel

Great location near Gramercy Park and Chelsea where my friends live. Contemporary decor though the room wasn't large. Quiet with a lovely roof deck off of the lounge where breakfast is served. Friendly helpful staff. I will definitely stay again.

Comfy little jewel of a hotel

Spotless and very comfortable room. Very friendly and professional staff from the receptionist to the bellstaff, high-quality linens and brand-spanking-new bathroom interior very nicely done. Truly an oasis after being out in the city all day on foot. Because the property is old, the hallways are narrow and the elevators slow. Not a big deal. I don't mind a tiny room, but if you're traveling with anything other than an intimate friend I'd ask to see the room first. If you do the continental breakfast buffet, the coffee's good, but the overall it doesn't live up to the rest of the hotel, and is not worth the extra charge. In fact, if it were free I might still pass it up. I've gotten much better at chain hotel "express"-type places. So just grab the complimentary coffee and head out for a bagel. The location is fine if you're on foot (as I like to be in NYC). Walk uptown, walk downtown, or to the subway. It's not super-close to Broadway shows or shopping or the Village. Huge drugstore chain right around the corner, however. My goal for this stay was an air-conditioned haven -- a place to sleep and shower in comfort, and I got it. The room safe worked at first, then stopped working, and it was never fixed. Luckily I left the emeralds at home :)

Very nice, lovely neighborhood

This is a lovely place to stay in New York if you are not headed uptown or don't mind the subway and taxis. I came to visit family who live nearby and it was an economical option. An excellent, spotless, quiet room, with trendy decor. Don't expect additional amenities, such as pool, gym, breakfast. Bed was VERY comfortable.

Nice

The hotel is in a pretty good place. The rooms are nicely decorated and very clean. Also its only two blocks from a place called Lyric's diner, which has amazing Veggie omelettes.
