Chic decor, luxury amenities at this stylish hotel near Gramercy Park
This hotel is all about style. Its small size (just 135 rooms) and location in the Gramercy Park neighborhood make it feel more intimate and less touristy than a Midtown high-rise property. Modern furniture and animal print accents lend a hip vibe. Frette linens and marble bathrooms provide luxurious touches. A guest lounge offers free coffee and tea and computers for guests to use.
Highlights
  • Luxury linens and marble bathrooms
  • Guest lounge with seasonal outdoor terrace
Location

The neighborhood is known for its historic townhouses. Gramercy Park, however, is private, so only neighborhood residents have access. The blocks just south of the park are full of restaurants, bars and shops. The Flatiron Building, Fifth Avenue and Broadway are just four blocks from the hotel. Union Square is a short walk from the hotel, and from there it's just a couple more blocks to the famous Strand Book Store. Greenwich Village, the East Village other exciting neighborhoods are an easy subway ride away.

Rooms

Rooms are chic and modern, with accents such as animal-print pillows, velvet drapes and leather headboards. Beds are dressed with Frette linens and down comforters. Marble bathrooms have bath products by Lather. Expect in-room amenities including iPod docking stations, bathrobes and slippers, 32-inch LCD TVs, Wi-Fi (fees apply) umbrellas and in-room safety deposit boxes.

Features
The 10th floor guest lounge offers free coffee and tea and computers for guests' use and has an outdoor terrace open seasonally.

Hotel guests receive discount passes to the nearby New York Sports Club.

Above and Beyond

Had a great stay here! Was there for 4 nights - got free WiFi as a result. Room was kinda small and I inquired about a suite - they upgraded me for a very small fee for 2 of the nights - and gave me a 3rd night in the suite free! Even had our own semi-private terrace w/ an amazing view of the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings. Staff went above and beyond for everything. Only slight bummer was that the a/c didn't seem to work the suite bedroom - it was freezing outside but warm in the room?? Wasn't enough to make us call for service though so not a big deal. (Would be a big deal in summer.) Totally staying here again!

Ideally located getaway

Fantastic hotel, very clean, welcoming with friendly staff. Lovely views from 10th floor balcony of the Empire State Building. Ideally situated for all attractions, close to subway for further away attractions. Breakfast was expensive but found a lovely breakfast place just across the road at Pick-a-Bagel. Some rooms are on the small size so try to upgrade to a larger one if you can. All in all no real complaints and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and will return sooner rather than later.

Good hotel for the price

The Hotel was very nice and clean, all interactions with staff were very good. Door man [...] was very helpful with everything we needed. The restaurant had good food, we enjoyed eating there. My only complaint was that the room was a little small, but all in all for the price it was great.

Great location, clean and friendly

The Marcel Hotel was perfect for us. Great location, safe and clean. The staff was very friendly and I would stay here again without hesitation. Bedding was very comfortable. We stayed in a standard room with Queen size bed which was ample. Reason for trip was to visit family only 2 blocks from hotel - could not have picked a better location. Restaurants and shopping are literally outside the front entrance, a few steps away. Parking garage is also across from hotel! Michael at the front desk was the most friendly attendant and started my stay on a happy note, thank you!

Nice Ambiance, Good Location

The hotel is stylish and comfortable. We enjoyed the decor and the firm mattress. The bathroom was clean but the plumbing is funky: hot and cold are reversed and the toilet got plugged up (although the staff unplugged it right away).

Great Boutique Hotel for a business tr

Overall, I had a great, albeit limited experience at the Marcel. It has a swanky but small lobby which is all that can be expected in New York. My only wish is that I could have guaranteed a queen room. Booking on orbitz does not allow you to differentiate between a queen or full size bed.

great location, tourist free!

hotel location was perfect. very close to main train stations, coffee shops, restaurants and bars. if you are looking for a place close to the locals, this is the perfect hotel. mostly residential buildings around. so you don't run into millions of tourists as in time square. the hotel is newly renovated I think. everything looked so chic i loved it. the staff was good, too. i strongly recommend this place.
