Look elsewhere, not worth it!!

The only things this hotel has going for it is the location and "free" Internet, although I use that loosely because at $300-400 a night, it's in the cost. This hotel is straight out of the 1980's and needs a lot of TLC. Everything is old and very dated. Floors are very nasty...picture super old, pink carpet that you wouldn't want to be caught barefoot on. Room, including the bathroom are super small....and they offer a tiny non-HD TV with it. Hotel staff is below average, and not very friendly. This is a place that is wanting to be called a boutique hotel but misses the mark badly. Would never stay here again! Definitely look elsewhere for this price point.

Nothing "upper" west side about it

The outside historic aspect of the building and the hotel's location are the only good things about this hotel in my opinion. Room size, even for New York, was small--at least the superior queen we had. Coffee maker was not in room, as described. Neither were robes, although not specifically meantioned, were assumed for a hotel that charged $339 for a single queen bed. Hotel concierge never answered the phone once in all the times we tried to reach her. Our particular room on the 6 th floor looked out between two other buildings and had virtually no lighht in the room. Worse thing about the entire two day stay was that they did not change our sheets. We only discovered this at close to midnight when we returned back and turned back the sheets to leftover croissant crumbs. I called downstairs and asked why they hadn't been changed and was told "you have to ask". NO where is there a notation of this in the room. Towels that we hung up to reuse are expected, but sheets?? We were so disguisted at this and nothing could be done about it at midnight. For $339, change the sheets.

Lucerne Hotel

As Chicagoians, and world travelers we are well aware of the New York price extremes! Really 450+per night for a queen bed that bedding needed updating? Small T.V. with a remote that barely worked, and comp. breakfast (10%) off the bill? $1.50 to refill ice tea at lunch? Have you gone mad?

Not Luxurious

This hotel has a great location and is one of the most quiet and peaceful I've ever stayed at. All of my experiences with staff were very nice indeed, although check-in needs work. Over four days, a dozen small things went awry. Granted, people made it right, but training is off here. Or attention to detail at overall level. Still, I would stay here again if I wanted to be on this corner and wanted a quiet stay. FYI, I uncharacteristically did not use fitness or spa and these might be special.

This hotel is right across the park from Museum Mile. It is a great walk to get there--or take the M79 bus if you must.

Ordinary

Rooms were Good. Restroom was more like Comfort Inn. I have seen cheaper hotels with better bath accessories. Bathroom had no exhaust fan / open-able windows.

Cost Effective

The Lucerne is a cost effective hotel in New York city. Not overly endowered with amenities, it provides all you need at a good price. We don't spend much time in our room or need much to accommodate us well. The staff are friendly and efficient,. The Nice Matin restaurant is very good -- and well priced.

Not Really 4 Star

While the location was great, and the staff pleasant, I think that this should not be labeled as a 4 star hotel. It is old and the furniture was heavy, worn and just old. Could not control the heat or air (so opened a window to cool down the room, but then had lots of city noise). Great shower, but really small bathroom. I didn't really see any special amenities to make this 4 star. So if you are looking for location...great spot. Maybe I've just stayed in too many 3 star chains that feel more up to date with amenities than this one. It did have a toilet paper cozy.....

Old School

I was in NYC for a conference in Midtown but hotel rooms were scarce so ended up at the Lucerne on the Upper West Side. It appears to be in a trendy hip neighborhood with lots of restaurants and bars, 79th and Amsterdam. The restaurant Nicematin is part of the building but apparently is not affiliated. I tried to check in early so I may have drawn one of the smaller but available rooms. The room was adequate, but small, and well appointed but on the 2nd floor so there was a little bit of outdoor noise seeping into the room in the morning. The fitness/spa room is on this floor so it has a more public feel. I had a nice massage via their service. They have a concierge on duty and the lobby and staff were very friendly. Overall a nice experience and a good way to see other parts of the city and get out of the hustle and bustle of midtown.

Nice location but beware the NOISE.

Excellent location. Nice staff, great service. Rooms were very small and walls are paper thin. We could hear the family in the next room, talking, laughing, sneezing, etc.. And street so sounds were horrible. Book it but bring earplugs!
