You don't go to NY to sit in your hotel room

You can walk to Central Park, Natural History museum, Met, Guggenheim in one direction, or to the Hudson River the other direction. There are 2 tube lines minutes away to get down town and back. Plenty of places to eat on Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues, didn't have a bad meal and didn't feel like we were in tourist traps. There is a Trader Joe at 72st tube, minutes away. Cannot fault the hotel, every thing good.

The nicest hotel manager anywhere!

There was a mixup with another person's reservation and they did everything they could to make it up to me including giving me a bigger room than I paid for. The room was very clean when I checked in but the maid service was a little less diligent by the 5th day. I always stay here and I will continue to do so. Even the restaurant attached, but not owned ,by the hotel is great. The room comes with a coffee maker, an umbrella and once a week the hotel serves wine and cheese in the lobby. There is also a spa.

Entertainment tip: Not Applicable

There are more entertainment opportunities for children on the west side of NYC such as Vital children's theatre,CMOMA Children's Museum of Art and places to paint and make sculptures for all ages. The west side is friendlier and family oriented while still having entertainment and restaurants for adults.

Very happy with this hotel! Recommended

This hotel is friendly, clean and in a great location. It is a little small but big enough for 2 and the feeling of cleanliness and safety makes the size worth it all! Highly recommended.

I would recommend staying away from tours (busses, bikes, etc.). You can see much more on your own and just walking or bike riding you will run into something fun to see around every corner.

Family summer stay

The hotel is very conveniently located, just 1 block away from subway 1/2/3. It is only 2 avenues away from Central Park, history museum and the new science museum, where you can find Subway A/C/E too. It takes only 10min walk to the riverside park, which is also very pleasant in summer. The hotel room is not big but is very clean. Staffs are friendly. We had a wonderful stay there.

There is a convenient grocery store right at the corner of the Amsterdam and 79th. It's a convenient place to get bottled water, drink, some light dinner etc.

Great hotel, staff and location!

The staff was extremely courteous from the moment we stepped in. They gave us a small upgrade since I asked to be upgraded to a suite but had no availability. I was willing to pay but they didn't charge me since it was my birthday. The room was small since we had our children but in NY, it was considered above average and was a great value. Location could not have been better. We had multiple great restaurants, bagel shops, subway and liquor stores within 5 mins walking distance. What can I say, I would definitely stay here again!!

great hotel, amazing location

We stayed at The Lucerne while visiting NYC for a work trip with the family tagging along and the hotel was perfect for us. Amazing huge room (esp. for NYC), with views even. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. It would be difficult to beat the location so close to Central Park, the Natural History Museum, of course subway, Riverside Park, Zabars! Will definitely try to stay there again if possible.

Five nights on Upper West Side

My husband and I travel to NY at least once a year but had never stayed on the Upper West Side. We wanted fewer crowds and more of a neighborhood feel, yet conveniently located near Central Park and subways.and the Lucerne was perfect. When we didn't feel like walking, the 1 and D trains were both very close. The hotel is older and the room we stayed in was smaller than we were used to, but very clean and cozy. My only complaint was the disinterested staff. We never felt like desk clerks or doormen were interested in our comfort and they never even spoke to us unless we spoke first. Doormen didn't have much to do and were rarely at the door. Nonetheless, the awesome location and good value will bring us back again

If you need a quick snack in the evening, Insomnia Cookie is right across the street on Amsterdam. Tasty, cheap cookies are only a short walk away.

Nicely decorated rooms. Rooms are however smaller than what you normally get in other cities... Staff was friendly. Hotel is well located (about 50m from metro).
