A Hidden Treasure

The Jewel is truly precious. I turned left and I was at St. Patrick's Cathedral and Fifth Avenue. I turned right and I was at Radio City Music Hall. I walked straight and I was at Rockefeller Center with all it amenities. My room was well appointed so that I had all the comforts of home. The second floor provided a "Living Room" with cozy fireplace, computer and printer workstations, a TV room and a coffee/tea bar free of charge. The chilled purified water stations were a nice touch. If hungry, there was room service. A short walk to the right of The Jewel is its sister site with The Terrace Club available for food and drink. If you choose to go elsewhere, there is a plethora of casual and fine food dining establishments. Broadway is just a short walk as is Central Park. All in all, The Jewel is a hidden treasure nestled among the skyscrapers of business, entertainment and history.

Great experience

I stayed there for just one night. Perfect location, clean and cozy room (considering how much room you can get in NYC), great staff. The only thing is that it got somewhat noisy at midnight due to roadwork. But overall a great experience.

Great Location

The room's tiny, but everything is modern and the entire hotel has a fairly classy vibe. It's a good price and value for the location.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

10-15 minute walk from restaurant row. Le Rivage is my personal favorite, fantastic value (it's my go-to restaurant if I want to impress on a date).

comfortable, convenient

I liked The Jewel. Comfortable, clean, conveniently located and secure. The staff was helpful, if sometimes overloaded. Its connection with the restaurant in the hotel next door was convenient. My major complaint was the really outrageous charges for telephone calls.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Two old favorites from days gone bye--Sardi's, still the best canalloni known to man; The Russian Tea Room--a great disappointment, drab, funereal, average but expensive food. And they no longer seem to know what a blini is!

Location, Location, Location

Not the cheapest hotel in New York but the location is worth it. Rooms are typical in size for New York hotels (= small compared to many other cities). Single travelers will have no problems, families might be a bit cramped. Room was perfectly clean and had the usual stuff such as (small) LCD TV, alarm clock, coffee maker, hair dryer, and so on. Nothing out of the ordinary though. The Jewel puts a modern spin on things with its touch-screen check-in booths and tablet wielding receptionists (who are very friendly and helpful). Because of this and the fact that it's a fairly small hotel, check-in and check-out were super quick. The room was very quiet, not much street noise or even noise from other rooms. That by itself is a biggie for New York. You have to use your room key to use the elevator which is a bit weird at first but also a nice security feature. Little eco-friendly spins such as the controlled toilet flush systems are a nice touch.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

Traffic in New York is terrible - especially during rush hour (which is seems to be most of the day). If you need to get to JFK airport, be sure to budget more than enough time. It can take 1.5+ hours to get from this hotel to JFK during rush hour.

Fantastic Stay!

From the moment of check in my stay was fantastic. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and actually spacious for a NYC hotel. The location was great, I felt safe walking around the area at night and it was convenient to subway stops. Would recommend the hotel and plan to stay at The Jewel in the future.

The Terrace at Club Quarters the sister hotel has great views and food is good and reasonable. Great way to start the day, with breakfast on the outdoor terrace.
