The James New York, a newly built hotel anchoring the southwest corner of SoHo at Grand and Thompson Streets, will open September 1, 2010, featuring 114 guestrooms and suites bathed in natural light and unobstructed views of Manhattan. Located in the hotel, Celebrity Chef David Burkes' restaurant focuses on wholesome and hearty modern American food, locally sourced and presented in the creative and whimsical style that is Burke's trademark. Guests will enjoy several ways to experience the restaurant, including the Treehouse Bar for artisanal cocktails & homemade sweet and savory pop tarts from the Treehouse's toast bar; the loft-like main dining room featuring exposed beams and views through glass walls into the kitchen and wine cave; and outdoor space within the Urban Garden, opening this summer. The dining room boasts a bold, theatrical experience: a carving station where dishes are plated in the center of the action. David Burke Kitchen's interior is inspired by the surrounding Soho neighborhood, blending the cool, industrial simplicity of an airy loft with the rustic warmth of a country barn. Each room features custom-designed furnishings, and thoughtful guest-centric and environmentally-conscious touches, such as reclaimed wood floors and furnishings; an eco-friendly pillow selection by Keetsa; rugs made from all-natural fibers; easily-accessible electrical outlets; reading lights embedded in the headboard; and spacious guest bathrooms, complete with huge standing showers and separated from the living area by a floor-to-ceiling glass wall and a remote control screen. The exterior of the second floor will soon feature a lushly designed Urban Garden, a welcome respite for guests above the city's hustle and bustle. The connected Garden Bar & Restaurant, takes its visual cues from the outdoor space which in turn has a variety of comfortable seating arrangements amid park-like landscaping; and will feature a select menu of snacks, an extensive selection of hot and iced teas, and will also be available for meetings and private events. Jimmy, The James New York's rooftop lounge
Jimmy, our new rooftop lounge promises a year-round rooftop experience that embraces all seasons. Jimmy's design is a contemporary interpretation of the classic pub with a 1970's New York twist. Elements like herringbone floors, a leather trimmed solid wood bar top, brick glazed tile walls, rich blue upholstery and working fireplaces come together to create a sense of warmth. During the warm weather months, the bar atmosphere will spill out onto The James New York roof deck, boasting another fireplace, surrounded by three lounging beds and several chaise lounges, as well as the most unfettered views found anywhere in downtown Manhattan. The roof is topped off with the hotel's signature "halo", an architectural feature that draws the eye from both inside and outside the building, while framing the extraordinary views. Although located on the roof of The James, Jimmy will have a separate entrance at 15 Thompson Street.

Had a fabulous time

Possibly the number one thing about the James is the fabulous staff. They go out of their way to connect with you and make sure that your needs are met. I can't say enough good things about everyone I dealt with. I'm quite partial to modern/contemporary design and really liked the design features of the hotel. The room was spotless and quite comfortable. They provide eats in the lobby/lounge throughout the day. Coffee and pastry in the a.m. Fruit and water in the afternoon. Wine and cheese in the evening, and cookies late night! The location in Soho was perfect for me because there's a lot I like to do in Soho. And I found it easy to get other places in Manhattan. Cab's are usually fine, but there's a subway stop right nearby and when mid-town is gridlocked as it was one of the days I was there, the convenience of fast and hassle-free transport was very welcome. All in all, a great place to stay.

Great New Hotel

Amazing hotel! Would've given it a perfect 100% except for two flaws: 1. The rooftop "pool" seems more for decoration then actually swiming 2. Jimmy's, the rooftop bar was completely pretentious and totally over-priced. 1 tequila sunrise and 1 gina & tonic later and we were out $40, and the drinks tasted aweful! Hotel itself was amazing though.

Impeccable Service

As a business woman traveling can be exhausting. The room is very serene and spa-like. I felt pampered from the time I arrived until I HAD to leave. They provide nice amenities like wine and cheese and cookies in the lobby that make the stay that much more inviting.

Hip and overpriced

watched them build this hotel the last few years and was looking forward to it. The Hampton across the street was the newest place in the SOHO area in dire need of quality hotels before this was built. the rooms are very, very trendy, but NYC small even if the bathroom had a heated floor (very nice). the restaurant is very good, the yuppies take over all the bars, which is fine if you like noise and notice. If they can get the rates they charge, good for them, but there are better places within five minutes to stay for a lot less.
