An excellent base in New York
From the moment we arrived we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly and welcoming at all times and we particularly liked the waiters in the restaurant. Breakfast was excellent and the view out onto Central Park at breakfast time was superb The location was just right for seeing all the sights. Highly recommended

Great Location, Poor Value
Located on Central Park South this hotel was a perfect location for marathon weekend however the room furnishings were dated and the chairs were rickety. The carpet was dirty and the shower didn't drain. All showers were taken in ankle deep water, yuck! In addition, WIFI wasn't free. This hotel needs to get into the 21st century.

Great Location. Unbeatable views!
We were fortunate to book a room on one of the executive floors. Rooms on these floors have been recently renovated and are huge by New York City standards. The room was clean and very comfortable. Staff at the hotel were very thoughtful. After a full day of New York City activities, there was a plate of cookies waiting for us in the room upon our return in the evening. A nice touch! We had breakfast daily in the restaurant on the second floor. The setting was beautiful with tables overlooking Central Park South and Central Park itself. The location of the Park Lane cannot be beat. It's close to everything in Midtown and literally steps away from the subway. Also, its location just across the street from Central Park gives its rooms simply stunning views. It was great to wake up in the morning to views of the sun rising over Central Park. An unforgettable experience.

our room was very comfortable, clean and spacious. our view of Central Park and beyond was superb. We were able to spend a few hours in the Park before boarding our ship for our next destination. We would stay at this hotel again without hesitation.

just a good location
arrived at 10.30 pm to find one bed looking fresh and clean but had been slept in and covered up, with dirty bed sheets. Not a happy welcome. Was jusyt offered a new room. No upgrade and breakfast. Manager thought this was no big deal. Would never stay there again. Only the location was good.

Good but not great
Overall, our experience was not bad, but not great either. The room was a bit aged, but generally clean except in the corners and behind some of the furniture where dust and dirt were visible. We had lots of closet space and hangers, and the a/c worked well. Nice flat screen TV on the wall. Also, the blinds blocked out the light in the morning allowing us to sleep in when we wanted. While operational, the toilet needed fixing because it ran the whole time we stayed. It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room, considering the price of the room. Central Park is right across the street which was great, and there is a subway entrance 50 yards from the hotel entrance, allowing us to get to just about anywhere in the city, fairly easily. Workout center was good and there are lots of deli's etc to eat breakfast at nearby. As with any big city hotel, we had noise from work on the street below some nights, which woke us up. So, window noise insulation could have been better. For being in Manhattan, the overall value was good.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
We were in Manhattan 6 days and got the 7 day unlimited rides Metro pass for the subway. With the subway entrance so close to the hotel, it was fairly easy to get to wherever we wanted to go for sightseeing, etc. It was also nice not to have to worry about whether we had enough money on the card to get into the subway at any time.

Down at the heels room, hard sell to pay extra for upgrading
Assigned a room that was dark and unappealing. Peeling dark green wallpaper, dirty carpeting and uncomfortable mattresses. Heavy hand twisting by staff to pay more for an upgrade. We demanded that we be assigned a room that was updated and on the second day of our stay we were assigned a room that was at least clean and updated.
